Question about 1997 Mazda 626

2 Answers

My 1997 Mazda 626 is leaking coolant from the engine. I was told it was a plug in the engine that was worn out. Could that be the case or is it something else? The car as not overheated yet. I'm afraid to drive it with the kids in the car. It only leaks when the car is still not when I'm driving.

It can be one of the water jackets in the cylinder block of the engine that has got the leak. this can be plugged and must be done before a long journey as it can develop into a larger leak when on a long drive. Also this might plug off with rust sometimes and will not show up until the leak develops further

can YOU see one of these plugs to verify a leak.......

It is only logical to find the leak being the first person to have the view and it can be in the areas of the water flow, the hose, hose clips are prone to failure.

if it only leaks when switched off the a "hot spot will be created in the top of the engine/hoses.or maybe the water pump itself.you can find a leak by using an ultra violet lamp
(shows up ethylene niceley)its more than lickely a hose clip.

take to a mechanic and have the coolant system pressure tested , that will force the coolant from where the leak is and will be able to see what is leaking , i suspect a split/worn hose

Coolant fan on my 1998 mazda 626 is not working

Unplug the plug that lives on the side of your radiator and take a small wire and jumper the two wires in this two conductor plug. If the coolant fan turns on, you probably have a bad thermo switch (the thing the plug was plugged into on the radiator) and needs to be replaced. I assume you've idled the car until it starts to boil, noticing that the fan never comes on. If this is the case, that is your solution. Good luck.

Are you sure its transmission fluid and not coolant or gear oil?
i would say take it in, it might just need a new pan and gasket,

or you could go to the parts store and get a "transmission - stop leak" i have not yet had a positive experience with those but you might
