Engine control module checksum error. Computer logic has failed. Is the car running, or what symptioms do you have? Computer may possibly work with a software reflash. Else, you'll need a new computer and reflash to clear the code. Let us know if you have more questions.

No symptoms - just the light. However, with that said - here is the history of events. I drove 25 miles, tended to a sister-in-laws dogs, then started the van to return home. The light came on. I turned off the van, then restarted it to see if it was just a fluk, but the light stayed on. I returned home (25 miles). About 3 hours later I needed to go somewhere but found the 9 month old battery was totally gone. Parts store confirmed and replaced the battery - everything is fine except the light/code remain.

OK, I recommend you check your alternator voltage. Use a voltmeter at the battery with the engine running. The voltage should be at least 14 volts. If not, the ECM may be causing the battery not to charge. I will look up the wiring to see if the ECm regulates the alternator and get back to you. Even though you have no symptoms you have noticed, there may be things that can cause you trouble down the road. If you don't have a voltmeter, you can probably borrow one from autozone or similar chain or just ask them to come and check the voltage for you in the parking lot (with engine running). You may want to also check your gas mileage. If you decide against getting a new computer, you will have to keep tabs on a few things as insurance against trouble.

OK, I confirmed the voltage is regulated by the ECM. If the ECM is not producing the right voltage, you will likely need a new ECM. This may have been the reason your battery died. We need that voltage measurement.

OK, 14.6 DCV with engine running, 13.8 with the engine off. btw, not sure if it matters, when I tried to start the van and found the bad battery the gauges (including speedo

con't.. speedo and tach) all max'd out then returned to zero and the dash lites flashed. The van started and the dash continued to do wierd stuff... What will the gas milelage tell me?
Also, would I be money ahead to just order a preflashed PCM and be done with it? or, is it worth trying to flash my current PCM? Thanks in advance for all your assistance, ron

OK, good work--alternator seems to be OK, but it worries me that your other battery died. And your gages going wild is a NEW symptom. :-( I don't have any experience with trying to reflash a computer after this code, so not sure what odds are that will fix it. can you buy a preflashed ECM? Heck, that might be cheaper than having them reflash the old one. You might want to get an estimate for reflash. Let me know if I can do anything more.

Autozone has them for about $230. I just have to send them the VIN and misc data so they can do what needs to be done prior to sending the unit to me. Thanks again for everything!

Want to turn off check engine light on my 2002 dodge grand caravan sport fault code was a gas cap which was replaced

take it to a parts store , have them pull out the code, you might try this , remove the negative battery terminal for about 10 minutes ! this could do it ! if not, have the parts store do it. all codes must be removed from ecm after repair is made to eliminate it , its stored into the memory, it will not forget about it , you have to make it forget !!!! get it ?

My 2001 dodge grand caravan has a code p0601, its misfiring and smells like gas

that code indicates a bad PCM, you will need to have VIN number and make and model as they will need it to program the rebuilt PCM.
best option is to have the dealer order you one that is rebuilt and use yours as a core.
buying from independent companies can prove to be a hassle and may take more than one try to get a good rebuild
