With the car parked on a level surface start the engine. Remove the transmission dipstick and wipe clean. Reinsert the dipstick and pull out again. The level should be somewhere between the cold and hot markings. If it is low that start by adding 1/2 quart through the same tube that the dipstick goes into. You may have to purchase a small funnel that will fit into the opening.

After adding the fluid wait a couple of minutes for the fluid to settle out of the tube. Recheck the level. If still low continue to add in 1/2 quart increments until the fluid shows up in the cold level area.

The engine should be running and in park the hole time your are doing this.

Where do I find the location to check and fill transmission fluid on a 5 speed manual sl2?

Your tranny is on the right bottom of the engine. There should be a dipstick in that area. Same place you add the fluid.

1999 saturn sl2 transmission wont shift from 1st gear

Your valve body and possibly input shaft nut need to be replaced. The valve body's booster valve is worn down and won't create pressure. Before it went completely out it slammed on the input shaft nut and loosened it.

You need to replace the valve body and retorque the input shaft nut. The transmission is not junk. The above needs to be replaced and change the filter and fluid and do it every 20K miles.

How to drain transmission fluid in 1993 saturn sl2?

About the only way to drain transmission fluid is to take off the oil pan on the bottom of the tranny. There is no drain plug on transmissions.

Good luck

Jerks going into 3rd Gear

more than likely you will need a valve body rebuild. you are probably looking around $500+. don't let them try to sell you a transmission. you could search ebay and see if you can find a "rebuilt valve body" but make sure it is for a '00 to '02 SL2

1993 Saturn SL2 will not shift into highway gear

Saturn says and I quote

there transmission fluid is not to be changed after the first change at 6000 miles.

Now I say it should be changed at every 30000 miles. If changing out the fluid doesn't work then you need to go to a transmission repair shop.

You can try to do the reverse slam fix, which is easy to do:
Reverse slam fix

If it doesn't work, your valve body is probably bad, here is how to swap it, in case you are up for the challenge:
Swapping a valve body on a saturn TAAT trans.

An other possibility is your mainshaft nut could be loose, I don't have an article up for it yet, but it's comming.
An other possibility is that you have a bad VSS (or Vehicle Speed Sensor).
In any case, your transmission is probably OK, the valve body is accessible from the top of your transmission, right under the battery tray.

1994 saturn sl2 automatic, with really bad oil leak.

There are only two paths for oil there. The rear main, and a oil galley plug a little higher up, about 2 o'clock.
