I checked for voltage at the ac compressor voltage wire and there is no voltage. Yet, the ac compressor button on the dash control panel shows greenlight. could it be the button switch?

  • Ursulo Robles Sep 29, 2010

the compressor runs and cools okay if i apply voltage to the ac compressor voltage wire.

  • Ursulo Robles Sep 29, 2010

okay, i will check the relay or fuse. Also, the ac button on the dash lights green when i push it to engage ac compressor. Are you saying that the voltage is sent from the ac button on dash to fuse and to ac relay?

The ac fuse was burnt. hopefully, there is nothing serious causing to burn the fuse. Thanks

If the system is charged, and there is no air trapped in the system, and there is power getting to the compressor but the compressor won't engage, then the clutch is bad. You can test power to the compressor by disconnecting the wires to the pump and test them with a voltmeter.

You could have a faulty or shorted switch.
There should also be a relay under the hood in the relay center and/or a fuse you can also check.
The a/c relay is usually the cause of no power.
If you are not getting power to the relay itself, then the pressure switch could be bad. The pressure switch sends signals to and from the pcm to engage the high and low pressure switch on the a/c compressor. Check your relay first.

That would be a bad relay or fuse.

    Yep that is correct.

1995 grand jeep cherokee won't take freon why

You do know the compressor must be running to allow the system to be charged, right ?
If the system is low you have to jumper the low pressure switch or otherwise provide power to the compressor to put new cans of freon in.
And it will only go in on the low side of the system, which should be the only side you can connect the hose to.

How do I put freon into 1993 grand cherokee 5.2 engine?

Look for the large ac line/hose coming out of the ac compressor, and follow that line until you come to a small ac port, this is the low side where you will hook up to to charge.I take it you have purchased a charge hose and freon?Put the can of 134a freon on the can tap at end of charge hose, and the quick connect will snap on the low side ac port on the vehicle.Turn the freon can upside down and turn the t handle on the can tap until it pierces the can.Start the vehicle, and set all settings high blower motor, max air, recirculate mode. The ac compressor should cycle on and off, this is normal, until there is enough freon in system. When the can starts to empty, shake the can lightly until empty. It will be hard to tell, but you will figure it out.Turn the can t-handle back out,and unscrew the can an repeat process until enough freon is in the system. You can get to much freon in the system.so see hoe much it takes to fill it on the label under the hood.If the system was not empty,it won`t take the fill amount,go slow, and feel the cold parts(large ac line near the firewall). They should get dern cool,to cold, and sweating really good.Stop when this happens, and it is cool inside.
