All done. After the 14 weeks in the shop and new plugs, wires (and everything else) I replaced the Idle Air switch myself and it was great for 10 min. If I clear the computer this thing runs great till the PCM resets and it runs like ****. I am looking into the fuel sensor relay for now.

  • Rwardroup Sep 29, 2010

I dont think they ever said anything about the fuel pump or regulator. How can I test that at home? It does act like the volume of fuel goes down when you press the accelerator.

  • Rwardroup Sep 29, 2010

They did replace the computer at the dealership if that helps.

  • Rwardroup Sep 29, 2010

I did have the Check Engine lights checked and it shows the multi Misfire(still running down each issue on that) I did have them change the camshaft position sensor just before I picked the car up. I have the on-line Chiltons book to use for a month. If I cant fix this in a month I need to move on. I will get a fuel pressure tester tonight.

  • Rwardroup Sep 29, 2010

I will get a new Throttle postiton sensor tonight too.

  • Rwardroup Sep 29, 2010

Yes they put in a new ECM. The problem is worse now than it was when I took it in. It just "missed a little" then. Now I cant accelerate enough to turn left accross traffic at times. The funny thing is if I remove the battery cable to reset the lights the car runs great for a few minutes. I will get it to 40MPH after warm-up to reset the computer and then the problem returns. If the lights are flashing the car will hesitate badly. Once the light is constant it is almost driveable with a rough idle and slight hesitation at take off.

The AutoZone guage was out. I replaced the Throttle Postion Sensor and the car ran GREAT!!! TILL THE COMPUTER RESET. I plan on getting the Fuel Pressure checked this weekend. I am also replacing the Fuel Pressure Relay on the FireWall. What Next?

Thank you for your help on this. I would like to keep working with you on this till I can figure out what is wrong.

I had to order a fuel pressure regulator (it came in today) I will not have time to replace it for a few days. I will keep you posted on the results as soon as I get it installed. I have tested the electrical and it looks good so far. All voltages are strong.

  • Rwardroup Oct 10, 2010

Replaced Fuel Filter and Fuel Pressure Regulator. The problem still exists. I have made no progress at all. The car almost dies everytime you hit the gas. Actually it is running worse than before. So far the Dealer put in new plugs, wires and computer,Tested Injectors and timeing. I have replace Idle air sensor, Throttle Posittion Sensor, Fuel filter and Fuel Pressure Regulator. Very frustrating. The dealer wanted to try a Distributor. Do you have any other steps?

  • Rwardroup Oct 11, 2010

I am leaning to getting a new distributor. The car runs great till the computer resets. The codes after Camshaft postion sensor, Idle air snsor, throttle control sensor. fuel filter, fuel pressure valve replacement still show P0300 or multi misfire. The Coil is in the Distributor so I am going to save the $250 to get a new Distributor and go from there. My last resorts are the Distributor then the final replacement part will be the fuel pump. If that does not fix the Hesitation I will have to Sell the car for parts. I cannot drive it as it is with the hesitation, it is unsafe to try to cross traffic.

  • Rwardroup Oct 16, 2010

FIXED THE ISSUE with a Distributor. NO CODES .

    Thank you for your help.

  • Rwardroup Oct 16, 2010

This issue was fixed by replacing the Distributor. Please post this for all those who are looking for help with these problems with this car.

Clean throttle body, replace plugs and wires and fuel filter. Check for any type vacuum leaks. Test your coil packs to make sure you are getting spark in every cylinder. Test injector pulse and fuel pressure to make sure injectors are getting power and are clean so they can spray efficiently.

Have you had your fuel pressure regulator and fuel pump tested?

  • Nate Stansfield
    Nate Stansfield Sep 29, 2010

You can get a fuel pressure tester. There is a port on the fuel rail that is used for fuel pressure. Then you can test and see if you have pressure and see if it is a constant pressure. A faulty pressure regulator wont let the car have correct fuel pressure. A faulty throttle position sensor will cause gas not to flow right when the pedal is pressed.

If you have a service engine light on, I would have the codes read. That would tell you what your problem is.

A bad camshaft position sensor can also cause this, but that would have to be tested with a multi-tester meter.

Sounds good. Let me know how that goes. You did say you had a new ECM put in? Did this problem occur before or after that? Did they reset everything after installment? Anway... let me know if you get fuel pressure around 75 psi

Hopefully the programmed and reset the ECM properly. It sounds like a bad sensor such as throttle position sensor. But I would check fuel pressure just to make sure. If fuel pressure is good, then I would check the sensor

Make sure you have good strong spark, make sure the fuel pressure is good and steady, then just make sure you have no engine codes.

I would have the compression tested for any gasket leaks. Having your injectors flushed and pulse test done wouldn't be a bad idea either. If you had engine codes then I would say have camshaft position sensor tested.

If it has the multi-misfire, and you have replace all that and had computer reset and still have the code, I too would definately replace the coil. Timing is correct i'd assume. I do believe it would be a good next step to take. Autobarn. net or . com both have very very reasonable priced parts.

could be a bad idle control valve. causing idle surge and rise and stick open to allow a large vacuum leak in your manifold which would cause those Symptoms of rough acceleration and loss of power similar to a missfire.

97 z-24 rough idol when cold/runs better when warm

The most common problem is a partially clogged injector. They should be cleaned about once a year. Also the coil housing is known for shorting out between cylinders on your engine. The reason that its worse with the AC on is because the AC compressor is adding a load to the engine. You should probably take it to the shop and have it diagnosed soon before the misfire damages the catalytic converter.

Hard start and rough idle.

Sounds like it's time for a tune up of the ignition system. That would be easiest. If not, have a mechanic check your cylinder compression.
