Question about 1995 Toyota Camry

I am trying to replace the timing belt on a 95 camry. and cant seem to get the bolt out of the crank pully. Is it a lefthand thread bolt. Or is ther a trick to getting it loose. thanks

If you dont have a impact gun,heres a trick,first,see if the crank goes clock wise direction,if it does,put the socket whit a long brackerbar in a way that will hold it self,then crank the engine whit the starter,whit the ignition key.

i owned the 1995 4 cyl wide body camry till the cooling system failed in heavy traffic and over heat stripped out the head bolt threads in the block

the toyota camry engine designation is a 5S-FE

water pump is driven by timing belt
behind timing belt covers
they have to be removed to get to the water pump

normally timing belt, seals ,tension er pully and water pump are replaced at the same time ..comes in a kit

i dont have the 5S-FE cooling system hot under pressure specs

so I cant answer which inline electric pump pressure is required to work on the 5S-FE

1997 corolla crank pully bolt thread (left hand thread?)


it will be a normal RH thread. For easy removal use a 1/2 drive rattle gun and you will not have to try and hold the crank while you are undoing the bolt.

Im replacing timing belt on 92 camry 30 v6 w/auto trans. i cannot breakloose he crankshaft balancer/pulley bolt. Are the threads lefthanded?is there any easy way to loosen this bolt without the crankshaft...


the fly wheel access is right there at the starter. it is a little piece of metal.remove it to gain access to the fly wheel or get someone to hold the crank pulley.you will also need a wheel pulley to remove the crank pulley

TIMING BELT CHANGE You should have some mechanical skills before attempting any engine maintenance! These are basic instructions, and you must knoe what you removed, when, and what order so you can reinstall them in order. First, you have to remove everything in the way! You need to remove the Fan, clutch, and shroud, pump pully & drive belts. Next, you need to remove the Crank Pully:

1. Crank Pully Bolt 2. Crank Pully 3. Center Bolt 4. 5mm Hex drive (used to remove pully bolts) Once the fan stuff, and pully(s) are removed, then you need to remove the Timing Belt cover:

Once the cover is removed, you will need to loosen the adjusting nut and pully bolt on the Belt Tensioner:
A. Adjust Nut B. Pully Bolt C. TENSIONER PULLY Once the the Adjust Nut, and Pully bolt are loose, move the pully as far towards the water pump as possible.
Then, you can slip the timing belt from the sprockets. Check the tensioner for roughness and excess play! DO NOT MOVE THE CAM OR CRANK SPROCKETS! IF you do, then you will have to line up the Crank and Cam for piston number one at Top Dead Center before placing the new timing belt on! Note the timing marks on the crank and camshaft sprockets. IF YOU MUST! Allign the Cam and Crank at piston#1, Top Dead Center before removing the belt. Each sprocket has a small hole, with a line through it, and there is a small groove or "V" it alligns with on the engine. Now, once the timing belt is off, look at your new timing belt. Older belts use the Squared off teeth, while new ones have the rounded teeth. Make sure you have the correct belt for your sprockets! Never reinstall a belt that is in questionable condition. BELT WEAR CONDITIONS
If there are Arrows on the belt, they must be pointing to the RIGHT when you put the new belt on the sprockets. If there isn't one, then paint one on, and place the belt back on the sprockets. The arrow will indicate to a mechanic, this is the way the belt must be put back on (if they replace any cam or crank oil seals). Slip the new belt onto the Crank sprocket. While maintaining tension on the side of the belt opposite the tensioner, slip the belt onto the Camshaft sprocket. Releace the Tensioner adjusting nut to allow spring tension against the belt. Temporarily reinstall the crank pully, taking care to align the notch in the pully with the raised area on the sprocket. Rotate the crank clockwise two complete revolutions. Recheck the alignment of the of the valve timing marks. If they do not align properly, loosen the tensioner, slip the belt off the crank pully, align the timing marks, reinstall the belt, and check alignment again. Tighten the tensioner nut, then the bolt. Reinstall all parts removed, in the opposite order, of course. Start the engine and allow to reach normal operating temp, then road test. THEORETICALLY, you should simply be able to replace the belt with the new one, and go, as long as you did not move any of the sprockets when removing or installing the belt. Most people do it this way, and do not test for alignment before replacing everything. When the belt wears, timing will be off, very little, and this is why you check alignment. The belt may have slipped a tooth, making the timing off. This is why the Cam and Crank sprockets must both align properly. An experienced person will do just that: Replace the belt, and go. It really isn't all that hard. It helps to have a second person around with some experience also.

How do you adjust tension for drive belt


first you need to figure out if you have an automatic tensioner or an adjustable one. so look at the pullies which ones are not accesories (ie not an alternator pully, power steering.) some pullies will just be on there own not driving anything. is this pully connected to something like this O>o <--this end is the pully.
pully mounting bolt ^ ^arm with hole for rachet
or does it look like the pully is attached to a threaded pole.

the auto adjuster need a rachet to pull back on it (because it's spring loaded) while you install the new belt.

the other need the nut on the pully loosened and the threaded pole loosened will move the pully removing tension from the belt (opposite will tension the new belt).

tighten belt until you can only twist it in half.

HOW TO REMOVE BOLT FROM PULLY ON CRANK PULLY


They are usually in there pretty tight. If drivable, you can have someone loosen it up with a shop air gun.
Thread is not reverse.
There is a second way to remove it...Use a solid 1/2" breaker bar with the correct size impact socket. You need to support it and brace it against the floor. Then "bump" the engine over Don't crank, just bump. The engine crank will unscrew itself from the bolt. Be careful doing this if socket and bar get loose they can damage you and stuff around the area where you're working. I use a pipe driven into the ground with a pair of vise grips attached to the breaker bar to keep it at the right height. (bar goes inside the end of the pipe)

If you've double checked for more bolts in center of pulley, and are sure you have them all out, it should come relatively easy. Usually a tap with a deadblow hammer will jar it loose. Tried tapping with block of wood, maybe wedged shaped end, near base where it meets crank, all around as many spots as you can? Doesn't have threaded holes in pulley to thread in bolts to push against crank does it?

when i deal with very tie bolts at crakc pulleys, i loose it with an air gun or i install a big bracker bar with a socket and let it contact the car body, and cranck engine just a little be to loose the bolt, just make sure then engine turns to rigth before trying the last sujestion,
and just mark the pulleys with some liquid paper in order to install new belt ar see the alinging marks at autozone.com
