Question about Chevrolet Nova

1 Answer

I have a real bad oil leak. I am unsure where the leak is but after doing some research an idea that was thrown out there was the distributor o-ring seal. Could that possible be the problem? It was also put out there that using synthetic motor oil after using conventional oil most of the engine life could also cause it to leak. Is that true or not. Any help that you could provide would be appreciated. Thank you. Robert Lasley

Oil leak on a '92 Geo Tracker. Installed an O Ring, but still leaking. Any suggestions?

O-ring where? The drain plug? Distributor shaft? Or do you mean oil seal?
Geo oil drain plug specifies a compressible copper ring washer I think? Need to clean the surfaces well, and torque to spec. My own plug's seal is not perfect, but only a drop here and there usually. Autozone or NAPA can supply you a new plug and washer if needed.

Oil leaking from toyota camry 1992, 1994 model

You don't say what engine it has. The 4-cyl was a better than the V6 for oil leaks.

The V6 had oil leaks from

-rear bank cam cover gasket

-distributor o-ring seal

-oil filter bracket o-ring seal

-crankshaft nose oil seal (less common)

-rear main bearing oil seal (expensive, just leave it)

The 4 cyl leaked oil from

-distributor o-ring seal

-camshaft cover gasket

-rear main bearing seal (expensive, leave it)

Car smoke real bad when you crank it up

Sounds like you could have a leaking fuel injector or a bad fuel pressure regulator causing a rich condition at start up or possibly bad valve guide seals causing oil to leak into the combustion chamber, is the smoke blue or black when you start the engine up???

No leakage anywhere near engine but still the engine oil is disappearing

Check coolant tank for oil deposits( milky in substance) means you have a bad head gasket.
Usually if you were burng oil you see it at the tail pipe.
If you still can't find anything then bring it to a shop and have them do a cylinder leakage test. If yor handy let me know I'll give you the procedure do this. Good luck

Oil leak below ignition in motor

I believe you are talking about the distributor, if so there maybe a bad O ring on the distributor. Also, remove the cap and make sure the oil isn't leaking in there.

How to replace the o ring distributor

Remove the spark plug wires from the distributor. Loosen and remove the distributor mounting bolt(s). Pull the distributor out from the head. The o-ring is on the distributor shaft. The old one probably needs to be cut off. The new one will stretch and slide into place over the shaft. Put some engine oil on the o-ring, and re-insert the distributor. You will need to turn the shaft to the right position to get it to fit back in place.

If you suspect that your distributor is leaking oil because of a bad o-ring, a new o-ring may fix the problem. However, make sure that the distributor shaft bearing seal is not leaking. You can check this by removing the distributor cap and looking for oil inside the distributor. If the bearing seal is leaking, replacing the o-ring will not solve the problem. You will need to rebuild or replace the distributor.

Oil leak thru distributoron my 1994 honda accord lx.

you can buy a distributor o-ring seal real cheap at any honda dealer and they will most likey have it in stock as this is a common leak area. all you need to do is remove the 3 8mm bolts holding the distributor cover and wires-move out of the way. then you have 3 12mm bolts holding the dist to the engine head. it only goes back in one way. hope this helps you

Code thrown for top end problem

Lets get it WRIGHTis the oil on the out side or on the inside of the plug,, if inside then thats why No3 cylinder isent working and sounds like you have a ring or valve seal gone,
If you have the oil leak on the out side and not on the inside then your leak could be from the rocker cover gasket leaking If plug oiled up inside then fit new one and try it again. How many KM has it done

1990 HONDA ACCORD DISTRIBUTOR LEAKING OIL INTERNALLY

Lease check and make sure that you replace with the right seal, that alone should have taken care of this problem. However if the valve cover gasket is loose or bad it will cause oil to leak around distributor are but NOT into distributor. This seal can be easily replaced by loosing 4 10mm bolts on top of valve cover. Contact if you need more help Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA
