  1. Remove either the wing nut, upper cover retaining bolts or release clips from the upper top of the air cleaner and either lift off or separate the upper air cleaner housing or lid.

  1. Remove the air cleaner element and replace it with a new one.

    1. Wipe the air cleaner housing out using a damp cloth. Check the lid gasket, if equipped, to ensure that it has a tight seal.

    To install:
    1. Position the new element in the air cleaner housing.
    2. Position the lid or housing cover, then tighten the retaining bolts/nut or fasten the clips.

My 1988 Chevy s10 2.8 4 cylinder starts out on real high and dies when you go to give it gas

So it may be a lack of fuel, or a vacuum leak causing too much air to enter the system. This would cause high rpms. When you "give it gas", you are actualyy opening the throttle body which lets more air in and kills the engine. I would replace the fuel filter and tnen check for a vacuum leak by spraying carb cleaner around the vacuum hoses and listening for a change in engine rpms. There are numerous vids on how to find a vacuum leak.

Ai have a 88 chevy s-10 blazer it stall when i drive a block like it starts to cut out does it need a fuel filter, if so is it under the truck or does it need spark plugs only or does air filter only...

I suggest a full tune up.

1. Air filter.
2. Fuel filter, carbureted engine filter is located inside the line fitting where it attaches to the carburetor. Fuel injected engine filter is located in-line under the truck near the tank.
3. Oil and filter.
4. Spark plugs and wires.
5. Distributor cap and rotor if applicable.
6. PCV valve.

Need firing order with diagram

Firing order 1-5-6-3-4-2-7-8
Distributor rotor turn's clockwise
cylinder's 1-2-5-7 left side of motor
cylinder's 2-4-6-8 right side of motor back side by fire wall.

Keep up with your oil changes every three months or 3,000 miles which ever comes first, also at same time have all fluid level check, fuel filter and air filter replace once a year, tune-ups every two years, have your brakes check once a year, unless then feel funny have them check right away, transmission if fluid and filter has not been change every 30,000 miles, I leave it alone or new fluid will damage transmission clutches and transmission will have to be overhaul within 30 to 60 days.

I have a 1988 astro van v-6 hard to keep statred in the morning with a strong smell of gas

Is the air filter clean, believe it or not a clogged air filter can cause unburnt fuel. If it isn't the filter is the check engine light on? If so have the codes read, it may be a bad O2 sensor. It also might be an injector going bad.
