2000 toyota tacoma ran out off gas now it wont stay running more than 2-3 seconds

has your car got a (engine cut off switch) if so the car is refusing petrol flow to engine its a safety feature that activates when car runs empty of fuel.switch is usually located in plastic casing under the steering wheel.look for a hole that has a button possibly white or orange in colour.check car manual for switch location,if problem still appears then look into the fuel pump/sensor

Why doesn't my car stay started?

try giving it a little fuel to keep it going. if it still goes but will shakes and splutters and coughs before smoothing out it sounds like fuel is draining back from your engine to the tank. if you have an electric fuel primer pump that turns on when you turn the ignition to on you should be able to hear an electric whine unless your car either does not feature one or its not audiable/ possibly not working. leave your car at "on" for 10 seconds then try starting it as well. see if it improves

Fuel pump is good car wont run i hot wired pump car starts will it hurt run car

ABSOLUTELY it will hurt the car!!! "Hotwiring" ANYTHING in a computer-controlled vehicle is a serious risk! If the fuel pump circuits are not working, there is a reason for it. You may have possible wiring harness damage causing the initial problem. Hotwiring the circuit could potentially smoke some high-dollar computer equipment or at worst, can burn your entire vehicle to the ground. You could be sending voltage not only to the fuel pump, but also to the place where the wiring harness is possibly damaged. Also, your fuel pump system is not designed to run at all times. The system is designed to turn the fuel pump on for just a couple seconds to "prime" the fuel rails, then shuts the fuel pump off until engine RPM has reached a specified set point. Failure of this safety feature can cause your exhaust to losd-up with fuel and cause an explosion. It is also designed to shut off in the event of any collision that would be bad enough to deploy the air bags - to prevent fuel spraying everywhere in the event of an accident. Hotwiring would defeat this extremely important safety feature. This would not only affect YOU in the event of an accident, but also anyone else that tried to HELP you or possibly anyone in the OTHER vehicle involved. Keep in mind that you are playing with gasoline - AND electrical circuits by doing this. (not a good combination) One ounce of gasoline has approximately the same potential energy as 100 pounds of TNT! I highly recommend getting the problem PROPERLY diagnosed and repaired!

If i jump orange and grey wire on an unpluged oil sensor at back of engine and run power to the fuel pump fuse the truck will start and run

may want to check the fuel pump relay. also the crossed out oil pressure switch is a safety feature to stall the engine if oil pressure drops. it is possible the oil sending unit is bad also.

sounds like a fuel problem. could be a fuel shut off switch, fuel pump relay, fuel pump. Possible bad electrical plug connection to pump

Fuel pump powerless all relays and fuses are good fuel pump is new engine runs with fuel in throtle body possible security system involvment maybe hidden relay cant find.

Hi,
First - look around the engine bay for an electrical item with a red rubber top. If you find one - press it hard. Often manufacturers fit fuel cut-off switches as a safety feature. - You hit something or roll - it stops pumping fuel everywhere. They can trigger slowly by themselves over time - or with a slight knock at the front.
If it is not this - then it may be part of an immobiliser circuit.
Try another key to start before serious delving.
