Question about Jeep Grand Cherokee
It sounds as if the Bendix drive is stuck. Disconnect the battery. Remove the starter. Check the bendix gear that engages the flexplate for wear or breakage. ree the gear on the spiral shaft with some WD40, PB Blaster or equivalent solvent/lubricant so that it can move along the shaft freely. Clean and dry the shaft. And grease the shaft with some white lithium grease. Re-install the starter, hook the battery up, and try to start the vehicle.
