Question about 2003 Ford Focus
Something is seriously wrong with the cooling circuit - the burning smell is coming from th gaskets, you will gonna have to replace them very soon since they were damaged.
First you must check that there's still enough water/coolant in the circuit - if not refill it to the max, run the engine and locate the leak; next check the belt for the water pump; then the thermostat - take it out and put it in a kettle of boiling water, if it doesn't open then it's faulty; finally the fan.
If all of these are ok then he only thing left is the water pump - it's faulty and must be replaced.
