To start with, you could read an article :-

Check engine light being ON does mean that there is something wrong with the car ( could be minor or major ), however going by the speculation never helps. You could take your car to nearest Autozone. They would scan your car for free. You could take a print out of the error codes. Those error codes would guide us what actually needs to be done rather than mere speculation and it could end up in waste of time and money. If you have scanned the car and have the codes, kindly let me know so that i could guide you what actually needs to be done.

Let me know,so that we could proceed.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

How do you locate the egr pressure sensor in 2003 mercury grand marquis?

First you need to know what to look for. Here's a link to a auto part web site:

The EGR valve takes exhaust gases and inserts them into the intake. Generally the EGR is near the center of the engine toward the back. It should be connected to the intake manifold and a pipe that comes from the exhaust manifold. It's not terribly difficult to change.

I have a 2002 Mercury Marquis. The check engine light came on so I had it checked by a parts store. The vacum switch for the EGR showed bad. I replaced it but the light is still on. and scan shows no other...

Did you replace the entire EGR Valve?

If it works correctly, the light will go out

Codes do not tell you what to replace

They tell you the system that has a possible
failure or out of range sensor, the
PCM (computer is seeing)

Not how to diagnose that system

2002 Grand Marquis DPFE and CLEN EGR Ports

First go to a independent auto shop to get a price will be much less, however it is a problem getting to some egr valves so it takes time and that costs money. The egr valve can be cleaned but you have to know how to remove it, but they most likely quoted you the price of a new DPFE and New EGR valve so that’s a little more than half the cost the rest is labor. if you want to do it yourself by a hanes manual or get a subscription on to do it your self.

Check the EGR valve. Replacing the EGR valve fixed my error code for misfiring. I also had to remove the battery cable for 5 minutes to turn off the check engine light.
