1 Answer

I just bought a 96 k1500 silverado ext. cab 4x4 short bed has a 5.7. The guy had it parked on a 20 degree slope and had gotten the truck stuck in park. So I bought it, disconnected the linkage to the tranny and roleed it back put it in drive and drove home with it. Well I putt a new shifting machenizum on and i am not being able to putt the thing in park, all I can do is put the thing in nutral/ drive/ 1st/ 2nd/ 3rd, when I need to back up it grinds because im in the middle of reverse and nutral whats going on?

Your tranny rods are wrong. I normally leave things loose put the shifter in park, put the tranny in park and then adjust all parts and snug down. The next time you find that problem block the front wheels and jack the rear up to take the pressure off the right tire and it should come right out of park, this is the best reason to set the "E" brake.

Gas gauge will jump around show empty when not 2001 silverado 2500 ck 4x4 ext cab

The gas gauge is part of the fuel pump assembly. I just replaced mine on 2X4 same truck. New assembly from GM is $500, $275 from Auto Zone. If inclined to do yourself, you can tilt bed up in drivers side. See other posts about changing fuel pump.

the gvwr is the calculated weight the the truck can carry in the cab and the bed combined, it is not the towing capacity, the towing capacity can be found in your owners manual. I hope this helps you, good luck !

Fuel gauge problem

sending unit on the fuel pump in the tank is stuck, and needs to be replaced. its expensive, but that will fix your issue. its the housing around the pump that has the float arm on it. you can try to free the float arm by removing your pump assembly, but cant guarantee its any good after being stuck
