Question about 1990 Ford Econoline

Open Question

Gas gauge in 1990 e150 not working, could it be a fuse problem or what other simple problem could it be, also engine is running hot, could this be a radiator problem or thermostat issue, the truck only has 151, 000 miles on it and almost all highway, i was wondering if these or any other things on this model had a factory recall that can be fixed. another thing is the trucks secondary tank does not want to work, it has fuel, but i was wondering if maybe it is the primary to secondary switch itself. i am a college student trying to get to my masters and doctrate in psychology and bought this vehicle to customize to haul art supplies to and from therapy clinics as i am working toward using my degrees to be an art therapist and help disabled people, and what steps i need to take to put a wheel chair lift in, like the specs and where to find the right one, and if there is any assistance programs available for such endeavors that your company may know of. thank you. SOURCE: Fuel pumps will not run!

Hey lets try this ! Locate your starter solenoid & look for a yellow wire marked with a "W" . That may be the fusible link for fuel pump. Let me know what you find.

SOURCE: I have a 1988 Ford F250 with the 460 engine and

The fuel pump relay and the oil pressure switch as well. The oil pressure switch runs power to the fuel pump when you first start it
When the oil pressure reaches operating range the relay takes over
They are both inexpensive so replace both of these parts to be safe and kill two birds with one stone. If one goes out the other will soon enough

Gas and heat gauges do not work. any suggestions

Hello
A stuck open engine thermostat making the engine run cold is the most common problem and would be the reason the temp gauge doesn't move, to confirm this is the problem block the radiator air flow, if the gauge moves the thermostat is stuck open.A defective fuel tank level sending unit would be the most common cause of the fuel gauge being inop, and is very common in this truck.. You have not mentioned any parts being replaced so the above parts are the most common things I have seen in my large Ford dealer as a 35 year veteran technican.

1990 honda accord temp gauge above hot limit.

Hi there,

Firstly - DO NOT run engine, when guage reads hot, as this will cause costly damage to head gasket & alloy engine head.

The fact that guage takes 1min to read HOT, would confirm the guage IS working properly.

So, other components which are likely to cause hot readings (in this order) are:

- lack of coolant (or leakage somewhere): is there sufficient green coolant at the correct level? Top up mixture to correct level. Repair any leaks.

- collapsed radiator hose: when engine is cold, start engine, then quickly watch both upper & lower radiator hoses to see if either begins to flex inwards (collapse). Replace if either hose is collapsed.

- bad/incorrect thermostat rating : when replacing thermostats, you must ensure it is of the SAME temp rating (they all differ).

- Incorrect Temp sensor rating: the ratings of this sensor must be within manufacturer's spec's.

- bad waterpump: the engine relies on the waterpump to distribute the coolant throughout the entire system. If waterpump is faulty, coolant will not flow quick enough, causing overheating.

If you still believe all of the above components are OK, then have your cooling system "pressure tested". This test should be done, before looking further at other electrical components.

Cheers,

1990 ranger gas gauge quit working. please help

I would check the ground wires and fuses. There could be a hairline crack which you can only see by a magnify glass. This hairline crack is enough to kill your gauge. Unfortunately you will have to pull the dash out to get to the cluster of gauges

I have the same "problem" with my 1990 Galant SS but I didnt think it was a problem. Everybody who knew anything about cars would always advice me to get the engine warmed-up first if it was left with the engine not running for long periods of time. I keep it warmed up for at least 5 minutes or so while waiting for the temp gauge to at least move towards the halway mark. But if its hot then a one click start should be the normal case. Try to get a tune-up on your nearest service center, they dont just replace the spark plugs but also have some sort of kit that helps with the idling and startup issues.
