If your egr valve is stuck open, your engine will most likely not idle and will run extremely rough. If it's not working but stuck closed, your car will run.

SOURCE: will a bad egr sensor cause 2002 ford windstart to run bad in the rain

Before replacing it, disconnect the sensor with the engine off and spray WD-40 on the connection. Then reconnect and try it. You can disconnect the battery for 10 minutes to clear the Code.

Will a egr valve cause rough idle

Yes the car won't run properly with a bad EGR valve and will use a lot more gas as well.

Where is the egr valve on a 99 Ford expedition

The EGR valve is in a very difficult spot to work on. If the EGR is bad it will set off the check engine light and make the vehicle run rough or stall at idle. It really doesn't make it run rough while driving or accelerating. What are the conditions when the car runs rough?

1989 jeep wrangler, motorcraft 2100 upgrade(carb), runs VERY bad, hesitates upon acceleration etc..ran like the before the new carb only not as bad. What could the problem be?

If you barely push the throttle and it's sputters, try unplugging the EGR valve and see how it runs.Make sure you have vacuum to the EGR valve.Start engine and on the outside see if you can put your finger under the EGR valve and see if it sucks up. Be careful and not let the engine get to hot when you do this test.

1992 Honda Accord Ex stick shift. has been either not starting or cutting off after it starts. If I wait about 10 mins., it will start again. I have replaced the starter the heat sensor unit and new...

Check your main relay. It powers the fuel pump and the ignition system. They are a known problem, with a high failure rate, on the 90-93 accords. I do believe it's worth checking.

Intermittently won't hold idle and stalls

The symptom you describe can be caused by either a bad or dirty EGR vavle or a broken / defective vacuum line.

Try this
1. disconnect and plug off the EGR vacuum supply line

2. Connect a vacuum hose of equal size to the EGR valve.

3. Start vehicle

4. draw a vacuum on the line orally.

a. the engine should die or run really bad.

5. Restart vehicle and repeat checking for same result.

6. If EGR valve is performing correctly as stated in steps 4 and 5 thern you most likely have a bad / cracked / damaged vacuum line somewhere.

7. Reconnect original vacuum line to the EGR Valve

8. Locate source of Vacuum leak.

first make sure egr valve works.with engine running aply vacum to valve, if idle drops, valve is ok.if not you may have a bad valve or possible carboned up egr passage.

How to remove egr valve on 1997 lincoln towncar

The EGR valve can be replaced by using a pipe wrench, or a standard wrench to remove the fitting over the pipe going into the EGR valve... it's not too hard to replace, I've done it on mine myself... I have a 97 town car as well... the only problem is that my EGR valve was fine, but the computer told me it was bad... But I found out that the EGR sensor was bad, not the valve... now to replace the EGR sensor you need to remove the engine... FORD in their infinite wisdom decided to put the EGR sensor on the rear of the engine, half way down next to the firewall...

My mechanic said that as long as the car is running fine, I souldnt worry about the EGR sensor, its job is to tell me when the EGR valve is bad...

Hope this helps

Engine service light

The DPFE (Diferential Pressure Sensor)sensor is usually mounted on the engine and is connected to the pipe that runs from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve with two rubber hoses. When the sensor goes bad, the Check Engine light comes on and typically sets any or all of teh following fault codes: P0171 & P0174 (lean codes), and/or P0401 (insufficient EGR flow). Nine out of ten times, the fault is not a bad EGR valve or a vacuum leak, but a bad DPFE sensor. A replacement costs about $112 at Ford, or about $48 at an aftermarket auto parts store.I hope this helps.
