Question about 2004 Kia Optima

2 Answers

Asked this question earlier and it was not resolved. I own a 2004 kia Optima and on the way home the tachometer quit, came back for an instant then quit. When you start it, it moves slightly. The check light stays on now. I would like to know where the sensor is located that runs the tach so I can see if I can fix it myself.

The speed sensor is what sends a signal to the speedometer. It's located on the transmission housing, usually at the output shaft. Have the engine codes read with a scanner to make sure that's what's causing the check engine light to illuminate.

Your ignition failure sensor has failed if you have a 2.4 liter engine it is located on the drivers side of the engine bolted on the side of the engine it is just a small rectangular or maybe square small box with four wires. sometimes it is marked ifs and made by mitsubishi. if you go to the dealer they charge you 271 dollars canadian, if you go to napa its about 80 dollars and if you go to a junk yard 6 dollar and 99 cents 2001 -2006 kia optima and 2000 -2005

Start with the simple and replace the fuel filter. The fuel filter should be replaced every 15,000 miles or once a year to ensure the fuel system is running 100%. Auto Zone will have the fuel filter and can give you the step by step instructions to getting the job done with common tools. If it's the fuel pump failure, you have not gotten the car restarted. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to know you got your car running 100% again soon and please rate.

Will crank but no spark

it could be a crank shaft sensor, but first check the ignition coil fuse.also check your tachometer if it's moving while cranking, if not 85% its a faulty crank shaft sensor
