Question about 2000 Chevrolet Venture

1 Answer

I have a 2000 venture van that the "traction active" lite comes on and it acts as it is slipping for short periods of time on turns, backing up light acceleration? Sometimes the ABS brake lite will also appear.

A failing ABS sensor is at fault, visually inspect wiring and also check each tire for bearing play, some sensors are a single unit ABS sensor built into bearing, if found play at any wheel that may be the one is failling.

Engine cuts out after a skid

traction control faulty. You slip and slide, your traction control activates, then here lies your problem.. after your traction control activates, it is creating an electrical short, vacuum leak, etc. look at what your traction control is operating, probably brakes. SO look at the brake booster vacuum lines or connecitons. Hope this at least gives you an idea of where to look. COuld be your traction control module is faulty.

Why does my traction off light come on?

You either have a problem with your engine control system, the traction control system, or you are not in the correct gear. See the explaination below. This is from the 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier Owner's Manual.

TRAC-OFF LIGHT

... If you turn the system off by moving the shift lever

to FIRST (1) or SECOND (2), the warning light will

come on and stay on. To turn the system back on,

move the shift lever back to a position other than

FIRST (1) or SECOND (2). The warning light

should go off. (See "Enhanced Traction System"

in the Index for more information.)

The warning light will come on when you set your

parking brake with the engine running, and it will

stay on if your parking brake doesn't release fully.

If the transaxle shift lever is in any position other

than FIRST (1) or SECOND (2) and the warning

light stays on after your parking brake is fully

released, it means there's a problem with the system.

If the traction control system is affected by an

engine-related problem, the system will turn off

and the warning light will come on.

If the Enhanced Traction System warning light comes

on and stays on for an extended period of time when the

transaxle shift lever is in any position other than FIRST
(1) or SECOND (2) your vehicle needs service.

I disconnect the positive battery cable and put my test -lite between the pos side of battery and positive cable and the lite comes on.does that mean that i have a short? i have a 2000 chevy venture.

That means you did nothing

All you did was create a voltage drop
across the bulb in the test light

Forget test lights,study OHM'S Law &
Basic Electricity

You Have to use a Volt Meter & then learn to
use an oscilloscope to work on todays
technology

What would indicate to you that something was
shorted? You applied 12.6 V to a test light & grounded it
& it worked, telling you not much, other than the bulb in
the test light is okey

What is traction stability control light for?

It has 2 functions.

1. to let you know that your Traction and Stability Control System is active. This means that your tires are slipping or your car is leaning and the ststem is actively taking corrective action. This should only cause the light to come on for a few seconds at a time.

2. To let you know that the Traction and Stability Control System is disabled. It may be because the button has been pushed to turn it off or it may be due to a malfunction in the system. Thjis will cause the light to come on and stay on. If it is staying on and it is not because you have turned it off, then the system will have to be diagnosed to find out what the malfunction is that has caused it.

TCS light comes on

the tcs is ur traction control system this reads the wheels and if one slips cuts down power to engine so as not to damage engine or trans also if awd will activate the other wheels for traction the sensors are usually part of the abs[anti-lock brakes] check connections and wires as well as the sensors at the wheels and transmission -since the light is intermittent which would indicate a short or a sensor is about to fail the vehicle will store the code as pending -have vehicle scanned some auto stores do this for free such as auto zone/ advanced auto check ur local area the code will tell u where the problem is coming from

Traction Control problem

I would pull the fuse. I do not like traction control or abs personally and I pull the fuse on both. They tend to have problems in their circuits and the pumps and I do not trust them

How can i turn off the traction control...it comes on periodically?

If the front hubs have been replaced, the problem lies in the harnesses to the wheel speed sensors. Here is a bulletin number for you, 03-05-25-008. It talks about replacing the harnesses to both front wheel speed sensors.

The traction control activates because the system thinks a wheel is slipping. If you slow down at a slow rate the abs might activate also.
