Question about 1996 Mazda Protege

1 Answer

96 Mazda Protege- will not start. No spark and no fuel to cylinders. Is there one component that could effect both? (Fuel pump works, all fuses are o.k.)

I need a fuse box diagram for a 1997 mazda protege dx. i have misplaced the owners manual and the diagram is not on the panel door. looking for the fuel pump fuse, specifically. When I prime the cylinder...

Yes - sounds like a Pump fuse, relay, or a pump...When you cycle the key (off-on-start-on) do you hear the pump running?
The fuel pump fuse may be under the hood with the other engine fuses - and it well may not be -(there is an accessory fuse box that has all the fuses for the inside accessories in it - located in the passenger compartment somewhere)- also check the kick panels at the drivers left foot and the passengers right foot -(If they pop off easily - The fuse box plastic cover will pop off easily, not attached with screws - so if you see screws or nuts, it won't be there) Look up under the dash on the drivers side, and also lastly check in the glove box- If you cannot find it, I'd see if I could find a Mazda "lovers" web-site - Often they post what is called "component locator" information, that would tell you exactally where it is (Normally you have to pay for access to that information - gotta love the web), or you may be able to locate a electronic owners manual there as well which will definitely tell you ...Best of luck and hope that helps some....

Probably your spark plug get wet (water get into your spark plug), so it doesn't work quite well to give high voltage spark to burn fuel.
Clean your spark plug by removing spark plugs of 4 cylinders and clean, start engine to blow out the residue water in spark plug socket. And install spark plug into 4 cylinders

I have replaced fuel pump'new fuel filter' new fuses' spark plugs' cap an roter'.on my 1993 mazda potege .fuel does not turn on' it has spark but will not start .could any one tell why.

Might want to chk. for a fuel pump relay or maybe a fuel shut off switch, when you just turn key to on position (not to start) you should hear pump run and then a click that click will be the relay, if you don't hear either one you May have to test light plug on pump to see if you got power there, also chk. your ground wire at pump. Its possible to have gotten a defective pump.

Engine rotates but will not start. I have spark and can hear the fuel pump relay click, but I don't know if the fuel pump is working. T in Georgia

the only method that work was pulling the fuel pump fuse, wait 1 minute, crank her with out your foot being on the gas for 15 sec. Put the fuse back in , and start her up normaly. 1 st attempt she started but cut off, redid the process over , got in started her up normally, but had my foot 1/4 way down on the acclerator. She started and feathered the gas til she was fully operational. Let her stay on for about 10 minutes then took her out for a good long spirited drive.smile.gif
