1998 mitsubishi idle problems

My mitsubishi is having troubles maintaining an idle when completely stopped. If it is in gear and going it is fine, but once required to stop at a stoplight the car's idle usually goes so low that it dies. It restarts fine and will work if you maeuver your feet to keep pressure on the gas while stopped. I was wondering what might be causing this and if there is a way for the monitarily challenged to fix it.

I just posted a similar request for my 1997 mitsubishi nimbus. The problem began when I changed the battery, so I will check for loose wires etc as recommended below, however I am worried it is to do with the computer.

Mitsubishi montero Sport 2003 ,erased p0136 code and now vehicle stalls when put in gear so what could be the problem

If you disconnected the battery you have lost what we call "learned Idle", read below on problem and solution.

Here are the most common causes of idle surge, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

Bad front end vibration while in gear at idle only makes dash and floorboard vibrate

When you are in gear at idle with your foot on the clutch you have placed an axial load on the crank which is pushed forward in the main bearings against a thrust bearing. I suspect a failing thrust face on this bearing as it only works under a clutch release load. The only other point that is under load is the clutch throw out bearing but if that is failing you should be hearing a tinny type of rattle when you have the foot on the clutch

Nissan pathfinder 1998 code p0325 what sencor is it there are 4 Sencors ???

It is the knock sensor. But before you do anything first check the vacuum line which is on the front right tire on the rear side of the tire where small hose from charcoal canister up over the shock to the purge valve. That vacuum hose from the purge valve connected to a metal hose and then the metal hose connected back to a rubber hose on the purge valve. that metal hose because it gets rusted cause a leak causing Injector 2 to missfire.

Problem 1998 Accord idle with AC on. My 1998 Honda Accord, 4cyl, auto trans has only about 90,000miles. Lately it has been coughing/sputtering when I stop at light or sign. Fine when driving/moving. O

If the idle air control valve is dirty, it may not be boosting base idle enough to cover the loss for the a/c. You may need to have the throttle body cleaned.

My 98 jetta 2.0 will not hold idle by itself until reaching operating temp. then a good long idle. in drive it completly shuts down after about 10-15 sec driving. will start up run for a few sec and shut...

Try replacing your Engine Coolant Temp Sensor, it's cheap and easy to replace. Just remember do it when the coolant is cool to work with before you start cracking a pressurized system.

Try changing your fuel filter, like on all fuel injection and electronic ignition problems the shade tree has to use the process of elimination. This is one of the cheapest.
