Question about 1992 Buick Regal

1 Answer

1.coolant line leaks, where is that line located? sometimes on hot days if i drive the car for too long something under the hood starts smoking 2. hood pop latch/ wire snapped, can't open it to throw in coolant AND 3. Whenever i'm low on gas and/or whenever i'm driving up hills, it sometimes doesn't kick into the next upper gear, i'll slow down and shut off on me. sometimes when idling for awhile, like at a stop light, it sounds like it has trouble pumping in gas, like its trying to stay alive, then it shuts down on me. the service engine lights been on for awhile and i really like to know whats up with it so i can fix it up. is it because of stress on low gas? needs a fuel pump? something to do with the coolant? i did use an old metal gasoline can a few times that may of had rust inside of it to fill up my tank, and ever since then, the service engine light has been on

Ok you have probably more than one problem first coolant leak im not sure which engine you have in your car but if it is the v six check at the tensioner there is to small ninty degree pipes they have orings on both ends of them and they typically start to leak motormite makes replacements for them if your car is continueslly running hot that can confuse your ecm and cause it to run lean or rich on fuel which will effect its idle small vacumm leaks can cause issues as well you can take throttle plate cleaner not carb cleaner and spray threw out your vacumm hoses it will idle up or choke out when you hit the hot spot for the leak im almost willing to bet you have a vaccum leak that whats causing your check engine light but however you have an upper hand for have a check engine light on thats the way your car is talking to you so dont ignore it take it in and have it scanned also because you have gm product it sets hard codes so have them pull all codes not just the current codes

Then the coolant jackets that I mentioned earlier that are attached to the belt tensioner are the pieces that you probably do need 47065 is the dorman / motormite part number you need to look for at any parts house

To find coolant leaks use a radiator pressure tester as leaks sometimes appear to be from a point but in fact are from somewhere else. As to the smoke check the condition of the drive belt and the tension of the belt.

What are common causes for engine oil being burned under the hood but the leak is out of line of sight?

It very well may be comeing from under the engine, sounds like there is an oil leak that only leaks under presure and is leaking on to the hot exhast.

My s 430 has smoke coming from under hood after driving but not all the time temp gauage reads normal. I had oil and trans leaks sealed but it is still happening, what else could it be? Thanks

SMOKE UNDER HOOD COULD BE COOLANT LEAK FROM RADIATOR ITSELF OR CHECK FOR LEAKING TOP RADIATOR HOSE AND CHECK FOR LEAKING BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE.LOOK UNDER THE HOOD IF COOLANT BOILING OUT COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG ENGINE OVERHEATING FROM BAD THERMOSTAT OR BAD WATER PUMP.CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAK AT WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE.IF SO WATER PUMP NEED REPLACING.ADD MORE COOLANT UNTIL LEVEL CORRECT.TRY LOCATE LEAK. IF CAR OVERHEATED AND BOILED IT OUT. SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD CAN ALSO BE CAUSED BY LEAKING VALVE COVERS WHICH CAN BE FIRE HAZARD IF OIL LEAKS ON HOT EXHAUST MANIFOLD.

2 days ago I turned on my air & it wouldn't get hot a few min. later my ford mustang started smoking. I looked under the hood to find that no engine coolant was in there. Once I put some in there the...

Sounds like you do.

With the engine cold top off the radiator with coolant. Start the engine allow it to warm up. Look for any drips or wet spots from cooling system components. Things like Radiators and water pumps would be fairly common. Pin holes in hoses or leaking gaskets may be a little harder to spot.

The make a tool called a cooling system pressure tester that will pressurize the cooling system to make it easier to spot leaks.

Also most shops will check the cooling system for a moderate fee. Once you know what is leaking you can decide if you want to tackle it yourself or let them handle the repair.

Temp gauge reaches red line and smoke/steam from under hood, but no leaks of any kind. This after recent oil change and thermostat install.

Something is wrong. What does the steam smell like? Oil or antifreeze?
Look closely for coolant seeping onto something hot and vaporizing, if that's what you smell.
Check your coolant level and oil to verify if you may have a leak.

Power streering leak, smoke under hood for 1996 Geo Prizm

Yes , power steering fluid will smoke if it gets on a hot engine, especially on any part of the exhaust system. Barring anything else wrong with the engine such as a coolant leak, and the engine running OK otherwise, I would say that the smoke is from power steering fluid dripping or getting blown on the exhaust by the fan.
