I recommend changing your fuel filter and dumping a bottle of fuel injector cleaner into your gas. When you run out of gas you sometimes end up sucking up a lot of the debris that has settled at the bottom of your gas tank. This can clog your fuel filter and injector ports. I hope this helps you out.

Dont crank the car to try and start it. Turn the key on, wait 5 seconds then turn the switch off. repeat 3 times. Then try to turn the motor over. When you have the key in the crank position the pump is off not on. It only runs for 3-5 seconds to get pressure in the system. It doesnt come back on until the motor starts. If you just crank it it may not start. you have to cycle the pump a few times to get fuel pressure to the injectors. In your case the throttle body.

it also may have gone into flood mode. From you hold the gas pedal down. You may have run the pump dry and wiped out a o-ring or seal in the fuel pump.

I have a 2003 Pontiac Montana that ran out of gas, I put 2 gallons in it and now it won't start

Turn the key to run and listen to see if the electric fuel pump is running. If it is, allow it to run for 30 seconds before turning the key to start. This will allow the pump to push enough fuel to the fuel rail so the injectors have something to spray.

Almost ran out of gas. put 5 gallons in tank.

worst thing for fuel pumps is to run dry. The pressure will need to be confirmed. If none ,you overheated the pump and it will need to be replaces.

My 735 IL ran out of gas

the fuel pump is located in the gas tank, do you hear it pumping. electronic pumps don't like to run out of gas, the gas cools the pump.

96 Jeep cherokee ran out of gas, re-fuel, won't start. No spark.

You may have to prime the fuel pump. Or replace the fuel pump if that does not work. Why do you let it run out of gas? This is definately not good for an injected motor. It will continue to cause more and more problems. Fuel injectors should never run dry.

Depress shrader valve on fuel rail and see if pump primed,If primed take air snorkle from throttle body of and use carb cleaner to gett running,Some one can keep giming short burst or cleaner to thottle boby inlet till air gets out of system.Have seen this before.Air trapped in injectors.

Ran out of gas......

Sounds like fuel pump burned out when you ran out of gas. probably ran dry for about 20 sec till engine quit. Check for power to fuel pump in tank. Most likely fuel pump will need replacement . Hope this helps

2004 nissan titan...ran out of gas

Good chance that even on 4 gallons it may not start I would try for more, prime the fuel pump several times by turning the key on and leaving it on for around 5 seconds then shutting it off and repeating, obviously not trying to start. I've had cases where even small FWD cars won't start even on 4 gallons on a 12 gallon tank. The newer fuel pumps are a closed system that only allow a small portion of fuel into the pump housing to keep contamination down. Let me know if after adding a few more gallons it won't start we will trouble shoot from there. Thank you for using fixya.com
