My 2000 Buick LeSabre whines and will not shift into any forward gears. It also has a very loud whining noise. Car starts fine and I am able to put the car in to reverse. Once I put the car in Drive it...

it does sound like the transmission has packed it in. you might be able to find a decent used one via a wrecking yard and get a local mechanic to install it.
try to find one out of a car with under 100K miles on it.

What transmission fluid should I use

Dextron III ATF Your transmission is a 4T65E and will take 12.7 liters total fill if you do a system flush. The other thing to that is the best thing out there is use a Synthetic Low VISCOSITY Automatic Transmission Fluid. NOTE, LOW VISCOSITY. The thicker the viscosity the more fluid retention will occur causing gear shifting conflicts with the shift solenoid. Good luck and hope this helps.
