VW CODES

Those codes mean there's an issue with your MAF, Throttle Body Sensor, Fuel System, Engine Misfires

Start with the MAF first as that can cause the other issues to appear (ex. fuel issue because your MAF says it needs more fuel so your engine is getting flooded and stalling.

Then look at the Throttle body and have the replaced if the issue still occurs... Then look at the fuel injectors and fuel delivery system (lines, gas tank, gas pump, etc)

Your engine misfires seem to be the result of any of the previous....

Vw cabrio 1998

I recommend taking apart the intake and cleaning it thouroughly, including the vacuum hoses from the valve cover to the intake hose. I had a very similar problem and it cured mine wonderfully. It took me about 3 hours to dissasemble and clean everything with carb cleaner and re-install it all. For clarity, I took off everything from the airbox to the intake of the engine, including the large aluminum air duct that covers the top of the engine and exposes the spark plugs. Which is a great time to change plugs and wires by the way.

Good luck.

Car will not start at times, will stall out while running, and has choppy acceleration

Hi.
There is one thing you can do yourself and that is to drain the fuel tank (save the fuel for later!) and put some 93 octane in, to see if that cures the problem.
The other suggestion is to get that list of fault codes from your mechanic and post them here. Make sure it's a current list - read the codes, print out the list, clear the codes and then run the car for a while before getting the fault codes read again. Then send us that new list.

I haven't looked up the spec on your engine because I don't know what engine type it is, but if it has anti-knock sensors they could be trying to ****** the electronic timing so much that the car stalls, maybe combined with some other problem.

If these suggestions do help you solve the problem, please give my reply a rating to help others judge my knowledge / guessing skills.
If they do not, please hold off on the rating and add a comment with more details so I can try to help you further. Cheers, D
