I have a 1993 Ford Explorer that goes into high idle when I put in gear. It does this when the engine is hot or cold.


On some cars there's a speed sensor on the clutch or transmission. That might cause an idle problem.

P0401 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected

Possible Causes:
- Harness or connectors (EGR volume control valve circuit is open or shorted.)
- EGR volume control valve stuck closed

I have a 98 explorer 4x4 4.0 sohc we just changed the egr valve and it didnt solve our problem it dies and shifts hard we also just had the transmission rebuilt what could be causing this problem?


The problem with tryting to solve this, is the fact that you have just had your transmission rebuilt, which could lead to a number of possible problems.......did you rebuild it ??? or did you get it done a t a transmission shop ????? what was the original concern ????........please include more info, so that we are able to assist you !!

Car idles up and down, and also stalls


EGR valve and evp sensor controls idle. Replace both it should fix the idle problem
