Modern cars will "burn" about 1 ltr to 1000k.this is NOT a problem.when it gets down to 1ltr to 300k then a rebuild is is in order.....("old technology (60k/100k)dictates,no oil usage, new means 250k/300k per engine.)

Why does the oil light turn on when rpm drops below 1000

Oil light pops on at low rpm because at a low rpm, your engine is not running fast enough to maintain full pressure. this is because either you have an oil leak, or defective oil pressure switch.

Had new distributor put 3 days ago , 200 miles , had a slight tick sound so was watching oil carefully, noticed was leaking worse than before, so I changed the oil to put new filter on, drove 4 moles...

  • Hi, for oil to leak that fast you have got a massive leak. The ticking itself could be from low oil. First check the oil plug (where you drain the oil) on the oil pan with will be the bottom most part of the engine. It is possible the plug is not holding tight, the gasket may be old, torn or just plain missing. Sometimes people will strip them oil plugs. When this happens the pan has to be tapped a little over and a new, slightly oil plug installed.

  • On the oil filter housing are oil cooler line that have to hold a lot of pressure. Follow those lines to see if they are leaking oil.

  • I don't see a front seal leaking leaking quite that bad. A valve cover I am not sure would leak quite like that either. Your oil pan gasket could leak like this though. When you check the oil pan plug look strait up to all them little bolt holding the oil pan to the lower part of the engine. If leaking is noted then snug them bolts up or have them snugged up.

  • You may have to throw a piece of cardboard on the ground and crawl underneath with a flashlight and get a better eyeball on the leak. What ever the leak it is massive and should be repaired before driving or you could loose to much oil and seize your engine. The ticking. in my opinion, is the engine telling you it is very low on oil as it is.

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Where might the oil be leakin on my 02 ls

where on the ground, in relation to the engine, is the leak? front center, left rear, center rear, etc. there are a number of places oil can leak.

the only thing that will warn you that the oil is dangerously low is the light on the instrument cluster and the oil on the ground. if the vehicle is driven with this very low oil level, it wil loverheat and then the engine will stop. but by that time the damage would have been done. how much oil do you see on the ground at any one time? it is possible that either the oil filter or drain plug has become loosened.

2001 f150 super crew oil light comes on at low rpm goes off when i accelerate"

you must obtain an oil pressure gage you can use a inexpensive type like you would hang under your dash. remove the oil pressure sending unit from the engine, a little oil will leak out when you remove it, no big deal. install the add on gauge and see if the pressure at idle with the engine warmed up is over 20 lbs. if not you probably have bad crankshaft bearing but you would want to see what htings look like inside the oil pan.if the pressure goes up to about 60lbs when running fast. and is very low at idle the engine is probably worn out. if the oil pressure drops when it is running fast you may have a plugged oil screen.i have found paper towels and rags inside of engines.

well the question is where did the coolant go. if it didnt leak out it must have went out the pipe. As you stated, white smoke, white smoke is coolant. You definately need to get this to the shop. You cannot drive it this way or further damage will occur.

2000 Toyota Celica coolant reservior empty

I hate to tell you this but its possible...

You have a leak. Look around on the driveway and try to determine if you have an external leak as opposed to an internal leak. If you see no coolant on the ground, suspect a blown head gasket. Do not continue to drive this car in this condition. If it does indeed have a blown head gasket, serious engine damage will occur.

Check your exhaust for white smoke. Chances are good you have a blown head gasket and coolant is leaking into the engines combustion chambers and is essentially burning off. Also check your oil, if it looks like caf mocha, this will confirm coolant is leaking into the oil via the blown head gasket

Oil leaking out fast when engine running.

Have you checked to see if the oil filter? it may be the source of the leak, also check the oil press sending unit and the oil pan drain plug.
