Only setting 4 works on mine. Sometimes the other 3 work and sometimes they don't. It acts like there is a short somewhere, but I have no idea how to fix the problem.

I have had the same issue, they replaced the resistor 2 times and the same issue kept coming up. Finally they replaced the fan control switch and finally i am on the 2nd month and no issues. They believed there was a short appearing in the switch during operation.I have had the same issue, they replaced the resistor 2 times and the same issue kept coming up. I have the same problem. The ac was working and now, it is only on setting 4 that works. I have taken it to a mechanic who replaced the restrictor, which worked for 2 days and went out again. Then he replaced the switch and again it worked for 2 days and broken again. This time, I took it back and he did find a short in the wire. He taped it up and it worked for 2 days again, and now it is back the way it was, only working on setting #4. I was told this was a problem with the Colorado. Chevy has yet to recall it, but they need to. If it is a short, it is possible that the vehicle could catch fire.

There isn't one. The function is done by the Body Control Module (BCM) along with lots of other functions.
Where is the turn signal relay on a 2006 Chevy Colorado?
The turn signal is controlled by the BCM (Body Control Module) that is located at the passenger side kick panel.

If you mean all the time when the ignition is on, this may be correct, depending on how you have the climate controls set. Anytime you have the climate control in an A/C mode, or whenever the defroster is on (look for the squiggly lines icon on the control), the A/C compressor runs and thus so will the cooling fan. To be sure, place the climate control in the heat mode with the air directed to the floor vents, As long as the engine is at normal temp, then cooling fan should be off in this condition.
Hi J, I believe the problem is with the resistor inside the the climate box. If you remove the covers from the side of the center consul and look carefully at the heater unit you should see a small panel (Maybe two inches square) with an electrical connection attached. Remove the plug and then the retaining screw and withdraw the unit. On the back of it you will see wire wound resistors. These are for the lower speeds of the interior fan operation and if blown the fan will only operate at the highest speed. either replace the unit or reconnect the broken wires and refit. Regards John
if the fan is blowing this could be a problem with the climate controll switch that changes the direction of air from floor to defrost to vents, some are vacuum controlled through a vacuum operated mechanism that opens and closes a door in the vents which redirects the air to different places.
