The noise happens running down the road or parked? Is the car a four wheel drive? The alteanator can go bad and whine, the wheel bearings can go bad and whine, windows not fitting right can make a whine The altenator will stop whining if it's unplugged, if this fixes it the battery and the altenater need tested and a bad battery can make the altenator whine and it still be OK. Don't run the engine with the battery disconnected as this can blow alot of expensive stuff and the altenator.

If it changes with engine speed, but doesn't go away, it can be anything that the fan belt turns. Yes there are things that winet5hat are not connected to the fan belt but are less likly. Does the sound change when turning the steering wheel? If it does the power steering pump can whine if the fluild is low. If the fluild is low it's likly leaking and the leak needs to be found and fixed. If the power steering pump is let run too long low it'll damage the pump and even with enough fluild in it it may whine. If this doesn't seem to be the case, remove the belt paying careful attintion to the routeing of the belt so you'll be able to put it back on. most of the time there is a picture of the routing of the belt to show the tensioner and the way the belt goes around the pulleys. With the belt removed the whining goes away? Yes or no? If yes, turn each pulley the the belt turns feeling for rough ness, hard to turn, or problems with the surface the belt runs on. All pulleys and the things are possible until they are elimanated. Let's say that the sound is still there after the belt is remove. You can't run the engine long with out the belt as the waterpump and altentor aren't running and the car can fail. The automatic transmission can whine as can a manual transmission if low on fluild or worn out in some way. lack of fluild or timely changing of the fluilds are likly to blame. If this seems to be the noise and the fluilds are correct, or you can't figure out if they are correct then it's time for expert help, a knowlegeable neibor or mechanic can help, or go to a professional shop. If you have a good shop with good help they can sve you money by fixing only what is wrong instead of stabbing around and guessing.

Could be your alternator or a bad idler pulley. Is the transmission good? It may be the tranny or your differential whining.

typical GM transmission, sounds like the "sunshell" is stripped out.

Weird noises in drive and reverse

The high pitched whine in reverse sounds normal for a honda. Ever honda I have had makes a similar noise while in reverse. The spinning, scraping noise in drive is not normal. You might want to see a mechanic about that.

While driving truck makes a humming sound in drive now no reverse

If you have no reverse then yes it needs to be rebuilt. as far as the whining it could be in one of the differentials. or in trans? just depends on where you hear it

Loud engine whine (like a jet noise) from 2002 subaru forester

Have you crawled under the vehicle and personally inspected your exhaust line from manifold to tail pipe? The roaring sound usually occur when there is a hole in the exhaust line. I had it happen to my forester before. A hole half the size of a dime made my subaru sound like my old 74 chevy pickup.
