Go to the Auto Parts store, tell them you have a 2001 Winstar and you need an alternator for the vehicle. They will look it up and if there are optional units they will be identified by what optional equipment you have installed. In most cases there are not. In some cases it is different if you have a second AC in the rear or a Power accessories package but the Auto Parts store computer can will tell you which one is best suited for your vehicle.

Battery drainage on 99 ford windstar

Aftermarket radio set up to play when no key in ignition? Or CB? or aftermarket alarm system?

If so- those can put a phantom load on the battery when it is shut down.

If you do not have those installed, does your fuel pump continue to run? If so- try swapping the fuel pump relay if that does not remedy it, replace the oil presure switch it may be stuck closed.

Where is the tension pully located on a for windstar, 2001 sel? I am replacing alternator but cannot reinstall belt

If it has automatic tensioner, look at the front of all your pulleys, there will be 1 with a bolt head that you can put a wrench on, this will be how you move the pulley. You will need a long wrench or some kind of leverage bar to go over your wrench

I have a 2001 windstar the tranny just stopped like it shifted in to nuteral and now nothing are they known for computer probs or wat ????

They and all other van type vehicles, with transaxles, have a 30 year history of problems

I would say, having owned a trans repair shop years ago, there is a 90% chance, your going to rebuilt the trans

My suggestion, sell it, and buy a rear drive transmission vehicle only,no transaxles.

I am trying to take the altenator off of a 2001 Ford Windstar. I cannot figure out how to release the tension on the belt. Where is the tensioner?

Usually there is a spring loaded, ilder bearing that is located near center of belt routing. Put a wrench on the unit and you can release tension.

Changing the altenator

Have you taken the belt off yet.
The belt is tensioned with a pulley which is spring loaded. Look for a small pulley wheel about 2 inches in diameter. Put a spanner on the nut and move it to loosen the belt. The alternator is a fixed one which has no adjusting arm. Just bolts to secure it.
Good Luck
