No, a bad cat will make the engine run rough or even stall if broken up inside-then it plugs up the exhaust.
Look for loose or broken suspension links, sway bars, loose strut mounts, or other rear suspension parts. Check the front suspension, too. Suspension parts are what keeps the wheels aligned, and allow for wheel movement, independent of the car frame.

Right rear tire is locked up

Hello,
If you are unable to fix yourself, than yes you can drive it to local shop. You still have front brakes working.
If you can repair yourself start by removing rear tire than brake drum and look for broken parts. Most likely they will fall out when you remove drum.
Replace worn or broken parts which are inexpensive for your car.
Check for leaking fluid from broken break lines and check fluid level under hood. Keep me informed N I'll help. Paul

What is the correct name of the part that needs to be replaced?

Chilton's car manual calls a plate below the engine a 'cradle plate'. It ties together suspension components, but they don't show anything forward of that point. A wrecking yard should be able to find one for you. Is the old one cracked or broken? It could probably be welded properly if removed.

Check engine light was on yesterday, off today

Ford's can store info in the computer for a while . you can take it in to a shop and have them put a code reader on the port under the dash and tell you what happened... Sometimes these codes are just a one-time event and they will clear themselves... But a reputable shop will tell you the code and if it's a worry or not. Let me know.
