My headlights were going out while driving on my 2005 grand marquis. So I replaced the wiper/combonation/dimmer switch and the problem came back after a couple weeks

Well it could be the headlight switch, or the light control module, or a wiring problem. The headlight switch provides a ground signal to the control module, which sends power to the dimmer. There are fuses between the dimmer and the headlight bulbs.

Headlights don't work unless you hold high beams

Check the headlight Relay and/or fuses - should be in the fuse panel.

Headlights come on for a 10 minutes and then turn off; dash lights, turn signal, passing signal all work etc.

There is actually a possible recall on this issue as it is a known problem with the LCM, or Lights Control Module. Go to the following site:
http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2003/mercury/grand_marquis/

This is one of the complaints:
HELLO, WE HAVE A 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS THAT HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE HEAD LIGHTS SHUTTING OFF AT RANDOM TIMES. NOTHING GAVE WARING TO THIS PROBLEM HAPPENING, WE BOUGHT THE CAR USED, AND WAS JUST FINE FOR A YEAR, THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN ONE DAY THE HEADLIGHTS JUST GO OUT. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO(3-1-10). NOW EVERYTIME IT IS DRIVEN WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON, IT IS GUARANTEED TO HAPPEN AT LEAST ONCE AND SOMETIMES UP TO 5 TIMES JUST IN 3 MILES OF DRIVING ON MY WIFES WAY HOME FROM WORK. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE LIGHTS BACK ON AFTER THEY GO OUT IS TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SHUT THE CAR OFF, LET SIT FOR A FEW MIN, THEN START AND THEY WORK AGAIN FOR A BIT. THIS IS OVERALL VERY DANGEROUS AND SUPRISING THAT WE HAVE NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OR RECIEVED A TICKET YET! I AM A ACTIVE MEMBER ON A CROWN VICTORIA FORUM, AND WITH LITTLE SEACHING ON THAT SITE OR GOOGLE YOU WILL SEE TONS OF REPORTS OF THIS BEING A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON THE 2003-2005 CROWN VICTORIA, GRAND MARQUIS, AND MERCURY MARAUDER. WITH THE HELP OF OTHER MEBERS ON THAT FORUM IT WAS FOUND TO BE A FAULTY LCM(LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE) WHICH HAS A PROBLEM WITH OVERHEATING LIGHTING RELAYS. THE ONLY WAY TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM IS TO PURCHAS A NEW LCM FOR ANYWHERE BETWEEN $250 AND $600 WITH NO GUARANTEE HOW LONG THAT PART WILL LAST. I ACTUALLY PURCHASED A NEW ONE TODAY. VERY EXPENSIVE FIX JUST FOR THE USE OF HEADLIGHTS, BUT I VALUE MY FAMILIES SAFETY MORE. I WILL BE KEEPING MY OLD LCM TO POSSIBLY HAVE IT REPAIRED FOR WHEN MY NEW PART FAILS AGAIN. THANKS SO MUCH.

2004 Crown Vic- Headlights come on when first started and stay lit. Once driven 20 minutes and shut off; they may fail to come on or come on and then go out. Using the 'flash' wand, the high beams will...

There is a resistor in the light control module under the driver side of the dash. You can replace the whole module which is about 100+ dollars or if you're good with soldering, replace the resistor. You will need to remove the box and open it up. Find out the resistor part number and replace it. This is a common problem on the 03-05 crown vics. Good luck

Headlights came on when i unlocked the car then

DOES IT HAVE THE AUTO LAMP FEATURE ON THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH OR ON THE REAR VIEW MIRROR ,ON AN 03 VIC IT SHOULD BE ON THE REARVIEW MIRROR ,& IF IT WILL NOT TURN THE LIGHT OFF (USUALLY A GREEN LIGHT) NEXT TO THE SWITCH THEN THE SWITCH IS BAD .

Headlights work intermitently

HI,Inspect the #27 fuse holder of the Central Junction Box (CJB) for a questionable contact issue with the male spade of the fuse, which may cause intermittent loss of contact.if ok sounds like you need lcm= light control module.

Headlights won't come on, now car won't start.

It is definitely the Lighting Control Module. Just fixed one for a friend. It has internal printed circuit board failure.
It is easy repair but it is expensive. New are 500. Controls much more than lights. Alarm, air bag, door key pad, etc.

You need to have correct part for 2003. tascafordparts, com has the for about $250.

It's just above brake pedal. remove the sond panel. The module will come out without removing other components.

Lighting Control Module (LCM)
The LCM eliminates the electronic interference and heat associated with the thermoelectric devices used previously. The LCM is a microprocessor- based module that controls several vehicle subsystems. It responds to electrical input signals from various switches, sensors, and external modules.
LCM exterior lighting subsystem functions include:
  • headlamps with autolamps (if equipped)
  • turn signal lamps/hazard flasher lamps
  • cornering lamps
  • parking lamps
  • battery saver
