The illumination in the speedometer and tachometer is totally gonen and I cannot see them to read the indications. They went out gradually--partially dark and partially red. One other gage is doing the same thing.

Hello. Most likely the bulb has blown. These are replaceable but difficult because you have to pull out the dash to get to them. Call around to a few auto body shops also try an autoelectric repair shop. j.

The BCM is what supplies these power. Since both went out at the same time that means that chances of the lights that illuminate the needles both going out at the same time is very unlikely. So the BCM is probably not sending power to them anymore. So you would have to replace the BCM or body control module.

Your actual speedometer may be bad. You can get a replacement at the salvage yard to find out without spending money for a new one.

check for a blown fuse in the fuse panel and if its not that pull the gauge cluster out of the dash and check the power and ground going to it cause most of the time its a bad ground wire or power wire cause people tend to kick wires under the dash on accident or they get worn or come apart

Speedometer not working

This may be the issue:

Both the speedometer and tachometer have a mechanical stop for the needles. The stop is located behind the display board.

The stop and needle contact point tend to develop a sticky residue which mechanically prevents the needle from rising above zero. At the behavior would indicate, the needles independently of one another, tend to stick at zero, yet intermittently, while driving will resume normal reading.

Disassembling the instrument cluster and carefully cleaning the stop and needle contact point with some solvent on a bent cotton swab or pipe cleaner should solve the problem. Just be careful not to break any of the delicate parts.

This problem and solution were first posted by users on the ClubLexus forums, but the brief discussion is difficult to locate.

If able, I will post a photo or short video of the problem and solution.

Speedometer needle no longer gauges...

does it now rest at zero with car stopped? if it doesn't then probably the little spring called the clock spring is broken. on most cars it's pretty involved to fix this, you will have to take the dash apart to get to it. hope that helps

I bet money on the tranny speed sensor being the problem- I think NAPA has em for about $100 bucks or so, but that has been a while. Good luck
