Question about 1992 Geo Storm

1 Answer

92 geo storm changed spark plugs and within a week ignition module went out, now I have spark to all 4 cylinders but 1 & 2 are not hitting. Can pull 3 & 4 off the distributor and car wants to die but pull 1 & 2 and there is no change in the way the car runs. Have double checked spark plugs and gap. Can't figure out why 1 & 2 are missing.

the timing is 180 degrees out so ignore where no 1 lead should be and rewire the HT leads to the new position for no1 cylinder. The crank timing mark should be on 10 degrees advanced. Engines are timed off the crank position so forget the cam position.
Or you can start again. Remove no 1 plug and turn the engine over until you feel compression under your finger over the plug hole. Set the timing on the crank to 10 degrees before tdc. Position the distributor so that the point of the star is directly opposite the exciter coil in the distributor. The rotor button should now be facing no 1 cylinder plug lead adjust the HT leads so that they will fire in the 1342 firing order. Start the engine and with a timing light attached to no 1 plug lead adjust the timing mark to specifications by turning the body of the distributor.

I would look into replacing the coil even though it is sending spark it might not be enough and I would go through and just double check all my wires as well as the firing order because if it's off just a little it will make the car run rough

MY 92 GEO STORM ACTS LIKE ITS NOT GETTING ENOUGH POWER. WHAT COULD THAT BE?storm wont turn

check for bad ignition wires and plugs. a black line on the spark plug insulator will indicate leakage, plug and wire will need to be changed.
plugged catylitic converter can also cause lack of power, can be checked with a backpressure guage test.

Running on two cylinders

The removal of # 3 & # 4 tells you those cylinders are
contributing the most ,as removing the wire causes the motor
to stop
My guess is that the other cyl #1 & #2 are not firing at all, if there
is no change

If you had a V6 or V8 it would continue to run,not so with only
4 cylinder

Learn or study the ignition system & replace any ignition control
module that fires the first two cylinders

Get an HEI Test Spark Plug & put the plug wire to that & ground it
& see if you get spark, check all the plug wires one at a time.

Don't forget timing belts that are worn & slip, battery voltage, alternator output & A/C Ripple coming out of it

I would check compression or better yet, do a cylinder leak down test.
Could be you have worn valves in #1 & #2 thus little spark
Check fuel pressure at motor with a gauge

Geo storm wont start after putting in new battery, altornatior, plugs and wires, and cap and rotor

storms, those are very rare. and Isuzu is very dead here.USA.
which size engine?
wont crank/?
or cranks ok, but wont start.
its old.
1:check compression, yet, over 150PSI (w.o.t)
2: check for spark at all 4 cylinders?
3: try test fuel if spark is good (spray fuel)

tell us how far you get.......
btw , it really a:
manufactured by Isuzu and sold in the United States by General Motors from 1990 through 1993 as part of GM's Geo line

btw2
1.6L DOHC (Storm) Interference
both DOHC engins are interfernance
if you skip belt changes, the valve bend and bye-bye engine.
BOOM
and a new motor is more that car is worth.

1992 Geo Storm having problems.

you may have turned too many rmps and warped a piston which would cause the piston to actualy hit your valve, or while turning too many rpms you may have caused the valve to "float" which would mess it up
