Same place where you check the fluid level, where the dipstick goes in. Good Luck.

When i put the machine into reverse it sits at idle for about 2 seconds then goes in..?

With the car running and warmed up, pull the transmission dipstick out, wipe it off, reinsert and see if your fluid is at the proper level. If so - when was the last time you had a transmission service/fuid & gasket done on the transmission?

Transmission fluid basically has a life. Once it gets outside of that usage/time frame - the properties that make it perform are pretty much gone.

If you check your fluid and it's good - and you've had a service done in at least the last 100,000 miles, just comment and If you provide year, make, model & engine size I can take your further.

Car wont go move in drive

Low transmission fuid, clogged transmisson filter, and hate to say, very possibly badly worn transmission. At this point I have never seen a change of fluid and filter fix it. Time to rebuild the tranny or have it replaced.

Transmission

If it's a automatic transmission the fluid is poured down the same tube that the dipstick is in. You'll probably need a small funnel. Check the level before you add any. Most vehicles have to be in neutral or park and idling to get the proper level reading. Also important to state how old your car is as well as the mileage and make and at what speed you think it's slipping. If very high mileage the transmission filter may be clogged up . If your dipstick is showing low , do not add more than a quart and then check again. Good luck because if that fails it probably means the transmission needs replacing or rebuilding.

Need the type of fuid i need

You need to provide the year and model of your car, and specify what fluid(s) you seek. Brake fluid? Transmission fluid? (automatic or manual?) Differential fluid?
Some of the on-line parts suppliers like Pelican Parts sell fluids. If you put in your model information, they will recommend the fluids you need.

Which way does the transmission oil flow in a 97 Honda Civic DX? there are two lines coming into the radiator, one from the top of the transmission, and one from the rear of the transmission. I installed...

You may want to put a bucket under it and disconnect the line, have a friend start the car for a few seconds and watch which way the fuid flows, Lee

What are the factors that would prevent trans from shifting?

1. Low Fuid, check.
2. Loose wire connections on transmission.
3. Shift Solenoid inside the transmission.
4. Clutch plates inside transmission.
5. Bad valve body inside transmission.
6. Transmission computer

Would probably need to send to a shop to diagnose, as they have the proper scan tools. You should be able to check fluid, and connections.
