Question about Alfa Romeo Spider

1 Answer

I have a 1988 Alfa Romeo Spider. This model features Bosch electonic fuel injection. Just installed a rebuilt motor and am having issues with it running correctly? It appears that this FI system on this car uses flywheel sensors to trigger the ignition. I am wondering therefore, if the flywheel needed to be positioned in a particular position on the crankshaft in order to result in correct ignition, etc. plse advise. Thanks tom

Thanks for your response to my 1988 Alfa Spider issue but wondering if you received my follow up e-mail? tom

Ok, first i appreciate your time, thank you. My follow up e-mail was more in the line of: are you familiar with the correct positioning of the flywheel's sensor when the crank is at TDC on the firing stroke? Or is it necessary to even worry about the flywheel's relative position to the crank? Also not familiar with any camshaft sensor - could you plse elaborate. Also does the small cam chain sprocket/jack shaft assembly and short chain have to be positioned a particular way? This didn't seem critical as the crank is positioned at TDC (marks line up) with both cams also aligning as they should. Thanks again. tom

There is a crankshaft position sensor as well as a camshaft position sensor. Your might not have the camashaft sensor but should have the cranks sensor

Flywheel positioning doensn't matter. Crank and cam timing are what gives correct positioning. There is a crankshaft position sensor that provides spark to coils and ignition module.

1984 Alfa Romeo Spider Electonic Fuel Injection

Check your fuel pump fuse by the ECU. Also make sure your inertial safety switch hasn't tripped.

Not getting gas to engine. Where do I find the fuel pump FUSE and/or RELAY??

Generally a FPR failure won't cause a non-start. Both your Fuel pump fuse and relay are under the package shelf, behind the front seats on the right hand side. The shelf has three screws that are kinda hard to see and some Velcro holding it down. Also thick your inertial switch. The white button should be up.

I have a 2001 Alfa Romeo Spider. After running

There is a fine mesh screen sock on the pickup tube in the gas tank, replace that. It will collapse and starve the fuel pump, but not all the time.

Where can I get a 5speed manual transmission for a 1988 Alfa Spider Quadrifoglio, low milage or rebuilt? Bob

I know of a company called engine transmission exchange. ETE. I would check them out on line.
I would also ask a local tranmission shop like aamco , cottman, if they have any on the shelf for purchase.
