Question about 1998 Dodge Intrepid

3 weeks, hundreds of dollars wasted-i just spent 350.00 to have the cooling fan "cleaned" after asking for it to be repalced. Is there even such a possiblity that "cleaning the fan" will stop my car from blowing fuses and overheating?

None what so ever...
If the cooling fan were defective you should have gotten a code..
I would stop payment on the check and ask a friend ( large male preferably) to go down there and talk to those guys!
If you asked for the fan to be replaced... they were not authorised to perform any other things... if they did not replace the fan , you should not have to pay them!

I have no big man to carry down to the shop with me-and these people have my car. After 3 weeks of total car hell-I have to go by myself. I am beyond mad, and that doesn't work when dealing with shady people. I have to fake being educated on this cooling fan thingamigig. I am also pretty sure I have the flu. And I am moving (or in the process). And, I have a child who needs for me to have a car to drive, a sound mind, and normal heart function. I am afraid that a heart attack is impending. And, while a hospital stay sounds just as good as a cruise to the carribean, I don't have time to fall apart! Sorry-I am just venting. Thanks again! I will survive. God bless you and all Zappas!"

Am I infering correctly ; you have not paid thier ransom on the car yet?
I would definately let them know you will not stand for this $350 cleaning... You brought your car there to get the fan replaced PERIOD . Thanks for cleaning up the old one.. but I did not agree to pay you to clean my car.
    Thats what I'd tell em.
Over $350 I would go to an attorney and have them draft you up a letter...
That may very well be free even.. but if it's $50 it's better than paying the $350 to the thieves !
Shady operations hate to have to explaine themselves to the authorities...

Whatever happens , I wish you Luck , as well as peace and tranquility in your life.

I'm sorry to say, it sounds like you have been ripped off. A new cooling fan assembly at NAPA is $230 (see HERE). The only cleaning that got done was to your wallet. If it was blowing fuses, it was probably just a short in the wiring.

A car's air conditioning system is very technical and has many parts that could be contributing to a malfunction. The solution could be as simple as adding more refrigerant to your A/C system in order to recharge it. On the other hand, there may not even be a problem with the A/C itself, but there could be a problem with the radiator and coolant system. Having the ability to effectively troubleshoot why your car A/C system is not working properly can save you hundreds of dollars that would be spent on a mechanic if you are able to fix the problem yourself.

You would vacuum the system then fill with coolant into the vacuum using the same connection as they do at the factory.Any garage will have a cooling system vacuum refill set.

Radio will not shut off even after driver door is open

I have been dealing with this same problem for the past week and it has already cost me 600 dollars while wasting time in the shop. They put in a new batter and did a tune up and the 50k trans change and then the next day it was dead. Started easily with a jump with no waiting to charge so I left it with them all week and they never figured it out. What I have found most on this subject is a sensor in the drivers side door that is going bad and if it fails the stereo will not shut off after you removed the key and open the door. Eventually the shop simply pulled the stereo fuse and gave me my car back... which really pissed me off since they had it for almost a week and I spent almost 600 dollars for what began as a simple routine maintenance job. So, I would begin by cleaning battery cables, and making sure everything is secure and well connected. And then my first point of focus would be the sensor in the drivers side door. In my case, after picking the car up this morning I plugged the stereo fuse back in and started it up. When I took out the key and opened the door everything shut down as it should. It is an after market stereo with a powerful amp so if it doesn't shut off it will surely be dead in the morning at which point I am taking it to a shop whom I know is good with electrical issues and newer (chipped) vehicles. I am sure I will have to replace the sensor eventually but at the moment if it keeps working for now I need to save the money... so, very long story made short..... Ask someone with more brain cells than my mechanic to test the sensor in the drivers side door. I also read that some others with the same problem would open the door and if it didn't shut down they gave it a good slam shut then opened it again and it shut down... which also points in the direction of it being the door sensor. I know I have probably over elaborated but hopefully this will at least help you make a better first decision than I did and you won't waste money paying someone to hunt down the wrong problems. Good luck :)

I AM THINKING OF BUYING A 2000 GRAND CARAVAN. ARE THERE ANY ISSUES I SHOULD BE AWARE OF

Other than the thousands of dollars you could spent repairing the air conditioning system, rack and pinion, evap codes, brakes, sway bar links, coolant pipes, speed sensors, automatic sliding door harnesses, and cooling fan relays they are pretty good vehicles.

My 1997 cadillac eldorado overheats plugs, thermostat, water pump, intake value have been replaced and still over heats.

Make sure the air in the cooling system is bled out,and make sure the cooling fans are coming on,and going off on there own.If they come on,they have to go off too, when it cools down.If the cooling fans do not come on,bled the cooling system, and replace the coolant sensor, this tells the computer to activate the cooling fan relays. Also check the fuse, and the cooling fan relay.

My Ford Taurus will not restart when it is warm/hot Once it cools down it restarts, no problem. ????

This may or may NOT help. I had a similar problem on my mustang a few years back. I spent, (actually my mother) spent hundreds of dollars trying to fix the same problem. i could be driving along fine and the thing would just die, after it cooled down for a little while, it would start right back up.

After going to 3 different shops and the car still doing it, i started asking around. Turns out the problem was the magnetic pickup coil on the distributor. This is usually located on the lower part of the distributor shaft that is down in the motor when the distributor is properly in place.

The part only cost 15 dollars, and after about 2 hours worth of work, the car ran fine. Your car may or may not even have one fo these, but since most fords are somewhat similar, i would think it does. If you are capable of doing this, try and replace that and see what happens. If you cant, ask a friend that knows what he or she is doing because a shop will probably charge way too much for doing thsi simple repair.

one thing that may cause a problem is the distributor gear, it is usually pressed on and will most likely require a shop to press it on and off. a good mechanic can do this fast and should be for less than 30 or 40 bucks. please post back if you find out this was the problem ro even if it wasnt.

When driving it my odyssey (1998)all lights on the dash (door lights etc) flash on then the motor dies. It can take a few minutes before you can start it again, this is starting to happen more frequently...

Try to check the battery or check the alternator because if your alternator is grounded there is a possibility these cause the problem or try to check the fuse also.
