Question about 2003 Ford Focus

1 Answer

Hello, I have a 2003 Ford focus . The left rear window regulator cable is broken. I need to replace the whole regulator. I have taken the door cover off and I can see the problem but I do not know how to get the old regular out. How do you take the window from the plastic assembly holding the window. I got everything loose, I just can't seem to get it out. Duct tape is holding the window in place. Any suggestions?

SOURCE: 2001 ford escape-passenger door handle

I just ordered the part for the inside of the door from a local ford dealer. It was in Michigan and arrived in three days to Missouri so shipping is fairly fast. The part is around $35.00. The part number is 6L8Z-78223N03-AA. Its the inside door reinforcement bracket and it comes with a new bushing for the actuator rod. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Rear window regulator broke

My 2002 Explorer had same problem. There was one metal rivet attaching the window to regulator. Drill it out and replace it with a new rivet or bolt and nut when you get the new regulator.

I do not expect you can get it from your dealer. They will probably seel it included with a complete assembly.
So should do scrap yard unless they have a bad assembly mounted on an accidented car and allow you to get the needed piece/part removed by yourself (if they are open to)
Good luck

Driver side back window won't stay up. Got wedges in it now to keep it from going down. I can hear the window motor running so must have a gear or some such thing broke. How do I get the door cover off?

You likely have a bad window regulator(fancy name for the electric motor and the cable mechinism that moves the window up and down.

I have had to replace both rear window requlators in my 2003 GMC Envoy, Terrible engineering on the window requlator. There is a nylon wheel on the electric motor, that nylon wheel winds up the cables to raise/lower the window. The edges of the nylon wheel (drum) wear out and the cable derails. Running the window motor just makes a "rats nest" out of the cables, you will likely have to replace the whole regulator. The inside door panel is held on by screws, in door handle and then clips around the perimeter of the pannel. After you remove the inside door panel there will be a paper panel siliconed to the door frame. You will have to be very careful removing it as it tears easily. I replaced my requlators several years ago. The left and right door went out within a couple of months of each other. At that time the only place you could get the rear doors was the dealer($200- $230) . The front doors had aftermarket available. I would assume with such a poor design, there are sure to be less expensive aftermarket parts(that are likely better) available.

If you are mechanicaly inclined, should be able to replace in about 1-2 hours.

How do you remove driver door panel ? the electric window broke, you can hear something rattling inside

Motor & Regulator
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Lower the window to the down position.
  3. Remove the door trim panel.
  4. Remove the door water deflector.
  5. Remove the window-to-regulator bolts.
  6. Push the window to its full up position and tape in place.
  7. Remove the nuts from the regulator cover plate.
  8. Remove the regulator drive cable from the rear of the cover plate and remove the cover plate from the door.

Remove the nuts from the regulator cover plate

  9. Disconnect the electric connector from the motor.
  10. Remove the regulator bolts (1, 2, 3).
  11. Pivot the regulator (right door clockwise, left door counterclockwise) and slide the assembly out of the door.
  12. Remove the motor/regulator from the vehicle.
    32085_aler_g0159.gif

Remove the regulator bolts (1, 2, 3) and remove the motor/regulator from the vehicle

To install:

  1. Partially install the three bolts (2) to hang the regulator in the door.
  2. Position the regulator in the door and hang it in place.

    NOTE

Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the regulator bolts and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  4. Install the electrical connector to the motor.
  5. Slide the window down to join the regulator.
  6. Install the window to the regulator bolts and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  7. Install the regulator cover plate nuts and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  8. Install the regulator drive cable (1) to the rear of the cover plate.
    32085_aler_g0160.gif

Install the regulator drive cable (1) to the rear of the cover plate

    NOTE

The regulator drive cable goes into position (2) for the coupe and position (3) for the sedan.

  9. Check the operation of the window.
  10. Install the water deflector.
  11. Install the door trim panel.
hope this helps you

You need to replace the regulator as an assembly. No diagram needed. Regulator bolts to door and window, motor bolts to regulator.

Need to remove rear right side door panel to fix the window

More that likely, the plastic guides that run up and down the "window regulator" are broken. If you take off the door panel, check for broken plastic pieces in the inside of the door shell. It is a common problem. However, the fix is not that easy - or cheap. It requires replacing the entire "regulator" with a new one. The repair requires removing the door panel, taking off the screws that hold the dual rail regulator and cables and unplugging the motor. The new regulator is about $70 from RockAuto.com or you can order from Autozone for around $105-115. I can't find anyone who sells it without the motor which is probably not bad. However, replacing the whole thing is much easier anyway. I'd suggest that you get the new one before you remove the old one. It is a lot easier to see how to take it out if you know what it looks like.

2003 Stratus power window

Most of the time the regulator has to be replaced. if you take the door apart and take a good look at the regulator you will probably find a broken guide or fraid cable... something broken to make the cable jump off. (you may get lucky and be able to fix the old regulator...but in all the years i've been doing these i've only seen one that i was able to fix and not have to replace the regulator) Sorry I don't have a good pic of this regulator you can check with the dealer or local glass shop for an aftermarket or www.directauto.com
hope this helps

Broken Ford Focus 3 door 04 reg Window Regulator. Can I replace myself?

If you search Google for Ford Focus Window Regulator replacement, you should find a great deal of information. The front doors are different from the rear (sedan, station wagon) doors. I've replaced the rear window regulator and it wasn't hard but the front window regulator is very different from the rear regulator.

2003 CTS rear window repair

well i have the same problem my Left side rear window came off the track so i took the door panel off. The door panel comes off by taking two srews out that are behind the lower handel off the door. The upper silver handel has a black peace off plastic behind it it is held on by clips. also you have to take the little peace of the lock thing that pops up. After you get the two screws out grad the door panel below the speaker and give it a good pull once it pops out you can take the peace out thats behing the silver handle. After you get the door panel to pop out you have to left it up. I think i need new parts so i will take it to the dealer. the door works with a pully and a cable the cable in my door is all twisted up.
