If you have a decent set of tools and the proper pulley puller to change the pump pulleys you can manage it in the driveway. Are you sure it's just the pump? Rack and Pinions fail pretty regularly on those years of GM vehicles and can mimic a bad pump. If the rack turns out to be bad, make sure you either replace the p/s lines or flush them extremely well and change the pump too. Metal shavings from the failed rack will ruin the p/s pump and the new rack.

It requires special tools, u may be able to borrow them from Kragen, the tool is called a power steering pulley remover/installed, u should also have special line wrenches or u will damage the fittings of the high pressure line, except for that the pump is fairly easy, but the pulley must be removed to access the bolts that hold the pump to the block brackets.

Stiff power steering problem

you probably need to check your powersteering fluid. if it is low, try adding some, if it is full you need to replace the pump. Mine has went out in similar circumstances.

Powersteering pump is.growling.

This can be caused from low fluid level. Fill the p/s reservoir and check for leaks, if you still have growling noise the pump has been ran dry and will need replaced and the leak repaired.

Where is the water pump on a Ford KJ Laser?

The water pump on the 92 Laser is easily replaced. You just need to untension the the belt driving the bump. Once you have done that all you need to do is undo the bolts and take the pump into your local auto parts dealer. Now that you have the pump install it and retension the belt.

U actually have to remove alternator belt and powersteering/a/c belts, then remove timing belt cover, remove timing belt adjuster, and slide timing belt off top pulley, making sure you mark it before removing it, so as to put it back in same position. Next, unbolt 2 bolts at bottom of water pump (this is a bit fiddly, but doable, then, undo water pump, replace with new water pump, being sure to use gasket cement, aswell as new gasket, which should be supplied with pump, then put it all back together, in reverse order of removal. Fill cooling system, check for leaks, and voila, u have done it :)

Bmw powersteering fault still no powersteering with new pump fitted

Who fitted the pump?

If the pump was fitted wrong it may have air in the pipes, it might need bleeding through, alternatively the fault could be the power steering rack and not the pump.

Hope this helps,

OVERHEATING EVERY NOW AND THEN WITH COOLANT COMING OUT OF OVERFLOW BOTTLE

Inspect the following: 1.(typical on these models) Possible cooling system caps leak allowing coolant to escape and air into the system. Replace if leaking (there are 2 caps- one cap on the top LH side of the engine and one on the radiator) 2. Radiator fan- This fan on the V-6s are hydraulic driven via powersteering pump, inspect for fluid leaks and proper fluid levels. (To test fan speed, unplug the switch located on the powersteering pump and rev motor to 2000 rpm fan should pick up speed)have it checked if problematic. 3. Replace the thermostat if this hasn't been done in the last 30,000miles, possible binding or stuck (located on the LH side of the engine, under the alternator and at the back end of the coolant feeder pipe). If these all check out fine, inspect or replace the water pump. To replace the pump it requires timing belt removal and or replacement. Hopefully this helps

2005 jetta no power steering hard to steer

First and foremost, (if not already done) check the powersteering resevoir to make sure it has fluid and it is full as well as having no leaks. If it's leaking you may see small dark areas where you frequently park, on the ground. If it is full, there is a chance you need a new one, a hose/line is broken or has a hole (leak). A mechanic is your best choice to find this out. If the resevoir is empty or low, (can be checked hot or cold; look for level indicators for each on dipstick); fill it up and drive for a day or two - check the fluid again (make note of any difference in steering after filling. Powersteering pump may also be belt driven, so make sure the belt is tight (no cracks, etc.) may need to replace belt.
