See circle in figure below for 2.4L engine. For 3.1L engine, it's under the air cleaner. Let me know if you have more questions.

Where is the thermostat in my 1997 pontiac grand am se?

On most engines, if you follow the top radiator hose from the radiator to the engine...usually, where the hose connects to the engine looks like an elbow with 2 bolt holding it on.
In this housing is where the thermostat is.

Hope this helps...

Need to locate and replace thermostat for 97 pontiac grand am se with a 2.4L engine.

The thermostat is under the car on the backside of the engine. there will be a metal pipe attached to the lower radiator hose. Follow that pipe to the back of the car. It is bolted to the water pump housing. The thermostat is in between the water pump housing and the metal pipe.

Just follow the upper radiator hose and it will lead right to the thermostat housing. Under it is the thermostat.

Where is the thermostat on 2.4L '97 Grand Am SE. Chilton's description is very unclear-no illustration.

follow the upper radiator hose to the engine. Thats where it is very hard to get to, and replace. You will need to remove some brackets and be flexable. good luck
