Question about 1999 Mercury Cougar

Open Question

98 Ford Ranger 3.0L suddenly stopped running as I pulled into the parking lot at work. Motor cranked but would not fire. It was raining so I pushed it into a parking spot and came back later with a multimeter to check fuses. #6 in the box under the hood was blown (20A mini fuse labled for Powertrain Control Module per manual should be 10A). I replaced the fuse with another 20A which also blew. I tried a 25A and the vehicle started. I started home and engine stopped after a couple of miles. PCM fuse blew again, replaced 25A with 30A which blew and vehicle did not start. I jumped with wire and got the couple of blocks home. Where should I start looking for the problem?

If this fuse only blows when you crank the engine then this would tell me the starter is shorting out and blowning the fuse. make sure to check it by replacing the fuse and turning the key on without cranking the engine and if the fuse doesnt blown then crank the engine and if the fuse blows then its the starter, replace the starter and this will take care of the problem.good day and hope this is helpful.

Overdrive is engaged with a torque convert clutch lockup. ATF travels through the splined shaft on the transmission to the torque converter. Check the seals on the converter and the trans.

Ford ranger elec window switch wont work for either window but pass side does work for that side

Replace your Driver side switch. It obviously has become corroded or shorted out from moisture. This happens a lot when people forget to put their windows up before a rain.

On passenger side, inside of cab there is a fuel inertia switch mounted on the firewall by where feet go. There is a button underneath, push it. This will reset switch. Truck should get fuel now and start. These switches get weak and if passenger kicks it truck will shut down. Will still turn over but not start.

i was once pulling a trailer with a ranger when it suddenly lost power and the engine died. turns out the problem was with the fuel shut off inertia switch. the switch is supposed to activate in case of accident. on my model the inertia switch is located in the passenger side under the glove box. dont know where yours is located. once you find it, just push the button and see if it resets. good luck.
