Question about 2001 Ford Ranger Regular Cab

1 Answer

My 2001 Ranger has good battery, Posts , etc but will not start. I think it must be either a connection problem somewhere or possibly the ignition switch. Don't think it is the starter itself. What are the symptons if it is the switch?

The switch should deliver 12 volts to the starter solenoid. You can use a test light to see if the solenoid is getting the 12 volts. You can also test the starter by jumping the hot terminal to the start terminal.

Ranger won,t start with charger after headlights on all night. what is the problem?

Maybe the deep discharge on battery trashed it and now it will not take a charge. Sure the charger is working? Give it enough time to charge the battery - at least five hours.

I replaced the power steering pump on my 92 Ford Ranger after a line busted. Now my truck will not start. Battery is good but it has no current going to truck

You may have accidentally damaged the positive lead or the main fusible link on the firewall when you were working on the power steering pump. On the other hand, the two things may be totally unrelated and complete coincidence!
Only thing you can do is get a multimeter and find where the voltage stops. Begin tracing from the battery, to the solenoid, to the ignition relay, to the ignition switch, etc... you will lose voltage SOMEWHERE, and that is how you will find the failure.

Pickup will not start. have new battery still nothing is there a fuse or relay to start motor

if it cranks over-it may be an ignition system fault/ if you turn the key and nothing happens at all with a good battery-it may be a bad starter motor-the starter motor has a very small wire connection not like the big fat starter motor battery connection-it is small and comes from the ignition switch - just apply 12 volts from the battery to that connector terminal and the motor will crank-key off it will not start-turn key to ignition on- it will start, so be in park and block the wheels and do not make a mistake

Maybe the ignition is bad- or your starter solenoid stuck in engaged position?

2001 Nissan Sentra 1.8L has no spark and won't start. Starter motors fine and battery is charged. No spark! it has a full tank of gas too. Please Help!

There are several things that can cause your engine to not have spark. It could be a crankshaft position sensor or the circuits to the sensor, it could be the security system "thinking" that the car is being stolen and has the ignition system locked out. It could be the ignition voltage circuit to the ignition coils, etc., etc....

In any case, your ignition system must be diagnosed to find the cause. This would include scanning the computers that control your ignition and security systems for possible fault codes.

94 Ford Ranger won't start. Replaced starter and solenoid and battery checks okay. Suspect a ground problem. Where do I begin?

To start, why did you replace the starter? Was it bad? Did you have it checked? Is the new one good? And what is the battery reading in Volts? Does it click at all, crank at all? Did you check the fusible link? Follow the hot wire from the battery to the link, a giant fuse type thing, check it out. Is the ground wire from the battery bolted to the frame or body, and engine? Is the starter connected right? Are the terminals on the battery posts squeaky clean? they have to be or it won't do anything. Check the electrolyte fluid and see what the gravity of each cell is. The battery with one weak cell is a dead duck. The voltage should be at 13.5 at all times. The posts have got to be clean and tight, the starter should at least click. Do you have an anti-theft device somewhere in there you forgot about? Check it out. Hope this helps.

CHECK VOLTAGE AT STARTER BIG WIRE COMES FROM BATTERY, SMALL WIRE FROM IGNITION SWITCH , WITH TEST LIGHT CHECK VOLTAGE AT SMALL WIRE WHILE SOME ONE TURNS KEY TO START POS. IF THERE IS VOLTAGE STARTER NO GOOD. IF NO VOLTAGE CHECK IGNITION SWITCH AND SAFETY NEUTRAL SWITCH.
