Whn I try to start my 2003 MC Sonoma, the key won't turn in the ignition, the steering wheel won't turnlockedand unable to move the shift lever out of park?

Sounds as if the ignition cylinder has an internal problem. You may have a sticky wafer inside the cylinder. You can try using some WD 40 and inserting the straw inside the cylinder and giving it a good spray. You can also try gently rocking the steering wheel back and forth while trying to turn the key. With out the ignition cylinder turning, the gearshift will not come out of park nor will the steering wheel come unlocked. Hop this helps

Key will not turn ignition switch

Try rotating your steering wheel. Give as many firm rotations as it will allow with the engine off. Try turning your key as you are rotating the steering wheel. Usually this is the problem.

The key will not turn in the ignition switch and the steering column will not turn on my 99 Nissan Altima

Try spraying PB Blaster (auto parts stores, and Walmart:) on your key, and a little in the key cylinder...wiggle back and forth...this will not harm the electronics...Sounds like the steering wheel is tight as the front wheels are turned or on a hill? Try a little extra strength turning the steering wheel, while trying to turn the ignition switch. Hope this helps.

Ignition locked on a 2000 Dodge intrepid

If you any other spare key, try with that key and see if it turns the ignition to unlock position.Try to turn the steering wheel to left and key to right side and try turning key to left an steering wheel to right side, try both ways and see if the key unlocks ignition. If that is not helping then try to wiggle the steering wheel and then insert key to unlock ignition. If that is also not helping then get wd-40 spray and spray the lubricant into key hole, and then let the spray remain there for few minutes then insert key in the key hole and see if it unlocks the ignition.------ If not then its problem with tumblers in the ignition switch, it has to be checked. For that ignition switch has to be removed and inspected. If ignition switch is inspected ok, then ignition key lock cylinder is faulty, it has to be replaced.Once the ignition switch is removed, the key lock cylinder can be accessed.----------- Getting this troubleshooting tried and this possibilities checked will help, thanks.Helpmech.

Ignition to tight and key will not turn.

Try turning the steering wheel while you turn the ignition key.

sometimes the linkage that locks your steering wheel puts pressure on the switch mechanisum and keeps it from turning

Hope Its this simple!

1991 S10 Ignition Lock Cylinder will not turn with key. Had new key made. Still, the ignition switch will not turn. It is on a 1991 Chevy S-10.

This may or may not help. Is key hanging up in cylinder? If so, spray some wd 40 or graphite into the switch. Also, if steering wheel is turned fully in either direction, then your steering wheel lock may be preventing you from truning key. Try shaking the wheel while turning the key. Lastly your ignition switch may be shot.

I put the key in the ignition and I try to turn it to start the car and it doesnt move.I have alresgy sprayed de-icer in it also I have sprayed sillico spray to try to loosen the cyclinder still nothing...

First, check to see if you have a different key that you also use for that car & try it. Second, you may need to remove the pressure off of the steering wheel to get the key to turn. Try turning the wheel even though it is locked to either side while attempting to turn the key. If that fails to work, it is entirely possible that your ignition switch or the lock cylinder will need to be replaced. Good luck.

Ignition switch is frozen,it has happened twice before, played with the key and it worked, now it is stuck again switch is dash mounted and steering wheel is free to turn

pull the steering wheel one way or the other, while turning the key ,if key and switch is hard , spray wd-40 in switch and try that,if the steering wheel is turned with pressure on it, just pull the wheel while turning the key, hope this helps you, thanks robert b.
