High speed steering wheel shake usually means a tire out of balance, on any car.

Steering wobbles when driving

Improperly balanced wheels can cause the wheels to wobble at speed which can be felt through the steering wheel. A local tyre shop can test the wheels for balance and make the necessary adjustments to the wheels by adding weights to even out the balance.

Wobble at 60 mph 1993 camry

Hi if your feeling the wobble through the steering wheel then this points towards the wheel balance being out, you need to have the 2 front wheels balanced and this should stop the wobble, it may just be that a weight has fallen off one of the wheels and just needs replacing.

This is a cheap fix and can be done at any tyre fitting place, you can do it yourself as the wheels need to go onto a machine to be spun round to find out where the weights need to go.

now other possible cases could be that one of your track rod ends need replacing this will need looking at on ramps to rule out this being the cause.

if the back wheels are the same size as the from then try swapping the front with the back and see if this makes and difference.

let me know if you need further assistance ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

My feont wheels shake somrtimes when i hit a bump

Hi Tony,

There is a problem with either the the wheel integrity, the steering linkage or all the above.

This is a dangerous and potentially life threatening situation.

As someone who has lived through a ball joint breaking off of it's connecting rod, I can tell you first hand that a steering wheel that doesn't steer is no fun at highway speeds.

Please have your vehicle looked at by a pro.
If you drive it, drive it slow, but drive it to a mechanic.

Wobble when accelerating

U NEED TO HAVE THE CV JOINTS CHECKED FOR EXCESSIVE WEAR, ALSO ROTATE THE TIRES AND SEE IF THAT HELPS, A SEPERATED TIRE CORD CAN CAUSE THIS WALLOW.

Hi I am Vortash .. I have to say first that this is not a car I have ever worked on , but it's a car so the fundementals will still be the same . Steering shudder usually occours due to 4 things Road wheels or suspension or steering itself ( this includes the ball joints that you say you have replaced )
1/ when you have new tyres fitted it is usually par for the course that they are balanced , this is the wheel is spun mechanicaly and a machine measures the axis wobble or TRUE .. a metal weight is placed at a point indicated by the machine to equalise the weight and give a true spin.... These weights sometimes come off causing the wheel to shake .
The wheels are buckled pot holes cause severe camage if hit at speed also knocking the tracking out causing tyre exstensive tyre wear .
2/ The suspension uhits .. if they become damaged they themselves wobble transfering movement to the steering
3/ steering the track rod ends wear and become loose allowing the front wheels to again wobble and run out of true .
4/ wheel bearings worn severly
The popping you hear I suspect is the sound of the tyres being dragged one way or the other traping air and poping it out , but I would have thought to do this the tyre pressure would have to be extreemly low .. you should have a miniumum of 24psi in the front and 28psi in the rear which is increased at the by 10% if towing .

I hope this is of some help Regards Vortash

Between 20 and 40 MPH front end of vehicle starts to wobble/shake. Thanx

if you can feel wobble through steer wheel ? suggest you have steering gear/joints etc checked ? also chack tyres for pressure/ wear? abnormal tread pattern would suggest tracking or steering fault ? if all above is ok ? than do a visual and physical check on engine mountins and drive shafts if you could come back with any more info history prior to this fault occuring? or any things you find on above checks ? please come back with update or if you req advice hope this is of some help

yes make sure your lug nuts are all tight and the wheels are seated properly on the hubs, if they are tight bring the car to a tire shop and have them balance the two front tires, this will tell you if you have a bent wheel please rate -jeff
