Question about 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

1 Answer

I had my tranny rebuilt and it constantly upshifts out of OD. I've had it back to the shop 6x and he can't figure it out. He has replaced the OD chip and a few valves since the initial repair. Any clues would be greatly appreciated. My Dad said maybe the lock up torque converter.

My 95 jeep grand cherokee 4.0 4x4 with the 42RE tranny. Recently driving up a grade on the freeway, my jeep was shifting in and out of overdrive fine. but when i started the descent down the the other...

Try adjusting the transmission cable that comes from the throttle body. That is where the transmission gets it's input for how much throttle is being requested. If it's misadjusted and thinks you're requesting too little throttle, it may try to downshift more than normal. It's been a while since I've done this on mine so I don't remember if this is the exact procedure or if there are additional steps, but you have to pop the clip for the throttle to transmission cable and slide the cable as far in as possible then put the clip back. Next you'll want to press the gas pedal all the way down (may have to use extra force). You'll hear a pop and you're done. If you mark beforehand, you can see if adjusting did anything.

1996 Eldo Kicks in and out of overdrive when hot

The best solution is to take it back. This job wasn't done properly, and it could lead to more problems.
If you cannot take it back, and/or do not feel comfortable with this shop doing the work again, I suggest you contact your State Attorney Generals Office- Consumer Division, if you're in the USA.

Fill out a complaint form, (They'll send it to you, or maybe you can have it faxed)
This shop will fix it properly, or pay to have another shop fix it.

Replace fluid and filter but add a bottle of Lucus Transmission additive. It will make tranny run cooler, shift smoother, renew bands a seals. Its also good to just put in all your cars to help make them last longer.

Transmission pops out of gear

Sounds like your tranny guy just did a bad job, the tranny needs to come out and be inspected internally. I bet the guy has a lock pin in wrong, or not at all.
