    Thanks for answering...

Individually, I can understand and I've checked both - no problems with either brake fluid or charging system...

Both lights together at the same time is the puzzle.

I have an 85 toyota pick up with the same problem. My battery warning light came on first and then shortly after so did the brake warning light. I had my charging system checked and everything was perfect.

Hi,

Brake light warning indicates possible low brake fluid in the reservoir;

Charge warning light indicates battery not charging which can be caused by defective alternator/regulator, slipping belt, corroded fusible link from alternator to battery B+ terminal.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

You would have to do voltage check on the common component used by both indicators. Additionally, it might be a case of loose connection on the various plug-in terminals. I am assuming that by your post "...Individually, I can understand and I've checked both..." that you have a fair knowledge of automotive electrical system, familiarity with electrical/electronic circuitry and components.

Having assumed that, here is the service manual for a Toyota 1988 truck/pick-up. The last pages detailed schematic of the vehicle's wiring.

    Cheers.

OK, first of all, replacing brake pads has absolutely NOTHING to to with your antilock brake system OR your traction control system.

You will have to scan your Antilock Brake System (ABS) module to find out what the actual problem is that is causing the lights to come on.

With all of that being said, the MOST LIKELY cause of your problem is either a faulty wheel speed sensor or a problem with the wiring harness going to the wheel speed sensor.
GM has had problems with BOTH on seveal of their models. If the sensor has a problem, the entire wheel bearing and hub assembly must be replaced because the sensor is serviced ONLY in a complete assembly. However, proper diagnosis should be performed - EVEN if you find a fault code that says "wheel speed sensor". I have seen many mechanics replace the bearing and hub assembly only to find out that the problem was actually being caused by the harness (EXPENSIVE MISDIAGNOSIS).
Both parts are sold at AutoZone and other parts retailers. (see pictures below)

There are also many other things that can possibly cause the symptoms you are describing - this is just the most common cause. Again, PROPER DIAGNOSIS needs to be performed.

Extended cab Tahoe truck, 4.3l. Why is brake light on I/P dimly lit?

Possible brake fluid level warning sensor problem in the master cylinder. Disconnect the wiring harness from the sensor in the master cylinder. If the light goes out, suspect the sensor. If the light continues to illuminate dimly, suspect a short to power in the harness on that circuit. Further diagnostics will be required to locate the problem

Noticed battery and brake light on my 01 montero sport lxs. Was told I need a new alternator. My car never died nor had a problem starting. Is there another reason for those two lights to be on?

As a first step to checking make sure your battery is full of electrolyte and give it a full charge to see if that causes the battery light to go out. The two lights may not be connected to alternator fault. If, when the battery is full charged, the battery light goes out and stay out you will have got to the bottom of the issue. You need to do this as soon as possible because the brake warning light is a major issur, If charging the battery cures the battery warning light but not the brake light then you have a brake problem.
If charging the battery puts both lights out and they stay out then it is probably as the garage argues.....there is no reason for a lrake light to go out if no brake work has been done.
You are o a path of investigation that must be carried out quickly in case the brake warning light is a valid warning.
Wouldn't drive too far or fast till you have resolved the matter

good luck

1991 geo prizm, battery light and brake light in the dash stay lit when you start the car. The car still runs fine just the dash warning lights stay on. The alternator was replaced maybe three years ago,...

Yes, it could be. Or you can check your battery. And try adding brake fluid to your master cylinder. That sometimes will cause the brake light to come on. Or check your emergency brake. Hope this helps, James Booth.

Exclamation point warning light came on...what

A yellow explanation point symbol on the dashboard typically applies to the Tire Pressure Monitoring system. A thick ! inside a half drawn flat tire symbol to be complete and comes in yellow color when lit. Under normal vehicle set-up, if this indicator stays lit after the power-on selftest, you need to check your tires for any uneven pressures and adjust their pressures to correct specifications. Okay? : )

A red exclamation point inside a circle when lit indicates your parking brake is on, or your brake fluid level is low.

VW passatt warning lights staying on

Check the wires that are going to the brake pad sensors. Some shops will install pads that don't have the sensor connections on them, causing this light to stay lit.
