10w-40 in cold season and 20w-50 in summer seasons, and fully-synthetic oil is the best type, and i prefer to use castrol gtx or Valvoline( we took apart an engine with 40,000 miles that had been run on penzoil and it was all gummed up with sludge)

What type and weight oil is used in 1996 Cadillac DeVille?

5w30. If you have used synthetic for it's entire life stay with it. If not...use whatever type you want.

Personally, I use Amsoil in all my vehicles.

My 1997 cadillac deville, northstar w/85, regular oil changes, burns almost 2 quarts of oil every change. It is not leaking.

If your car is losing oil, and if there is no evidence of oil leaking, there is no question that it is either losing it through piston rings or through the head (head gasket or valve guides).
Best thing to do is use a HEAVIER WEIGHT oil than specified for the vehicle when new, regularly monitor your oil level and be sure it never falls below one quart low, and consider having the engine overhauled when you start noticing a performance deficit or hear mechanical noise (such as rod knock) from the engine.

Is there a difference in the weights of motor oil 10/30 and 10/40?

Yes. 10-w30 will act like a 10 weight oil when cold and a 30 weight oil when hot. 10-w30 will act like ten weight when cold, but like (thicker) 40 weight oil when hot. Your profile only says Cadillac and doesn't say model or year, but most cars since the early- mid 80's use 5-w30. Always use the oil weight recommended in your owners manual. If you are unsure call the dealer and they will tell you what is right for your car.

What is the best type of oil to use in a 2004 cadillac escalade 6.0

The best way to find out is call the dealership and ask the service dept. what weight of oil they use ( the brand is up to you). I would recommend on a vehicle of 10 years or more, synthetic oil(but there is a drawback here), once you use synthetic oil, you can Never switch back. The two just don't mix well. Switching to synthetic is fine, just switching back, causes problems. The choice is yours. Myself personally, I like Castrol motor oil, just seems to hold up better, but that's me. I hope this helps.

My 2004 Cadilac CTS taps when its cold. What could be the problem?

check the oil level usually that is caused by the lack of oil at the top of the engine at initial start up, or it could be the lack of sufficient oil or wrong weight of oil, the oil type should be 5w30 by what ever company you want

I have a 1983 cadillac coupe deville with about 81,000 miles on the engine. car runs great but burns oil. any suggestions?

The only options you really have are. Have the top end rebuilt for new valve stem seals. Or try the syrup in a bottle you by from a local store, which I don't suggest using. But a lot of people use this stuff and it's basically a thick weighted oil and over time isn't good for the engine. With it being an 83 Cadillac, I would have the original engine rebuilt because these original parts are hard to come buy. Good Luck

Were do i put transmission fluid in the tranny 1997 cadi catera

Your Catera has a sealed for life transmission so therefore on one of these models there is no dipstick and you cannot check the fluid level yourself. The dealer can check the level but that is only necessary if you have a leak. Use a premium grade oil and a quality filter such as AC/Delco, Wix, Purolator, or Bosch. The correct weight oil is listed in your owner's manual and possibly on the oil fill cap or dipstick.

What weight motor oil do i use?

Hello wolfport21: My name is Roger and I will help you. The factory recommended oil is a 15W40 engine oil. I would suggest a low paraffin oil. High paraffin oil caused the rings to stick in the 4.1 engines. If you have a 5.7 engine the oil is the same as the 4.1 engines. Please rate the answer you received. This way we know your answer helped. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

I have low oil pressure at idle speed.

What is the pressure reading? Always use an AC Delco filter and the correct weight of oil.
