Question about 2002 Toyota Prius

1 Answer

Hello, 2002 toyota prius I have had freon added numerous times and the service man says he does not detect a leak in the AC. It only works for a little while.. He thinks it needs a part under the dash evaporitol (sp?) and says the labor would cost a thousand dollars. The car has about 150000 miles. He says I should sell the car. What do you advise. Thanks, Mary

Yours does seem to be a major undertaking to change the evaporator. I would let the dealer check it out and get an estimate.

What do I do to check for ac leak

You have two choices. Choice one take vehicle to a AC repair shop. Choice two get a AC leak detection kit and do it yourself. The kit works by adding a dye to the system and where the leak is it will glow green which can be seen using special glasses. You can also get AC freon with the dye in it

Air conditioning goes on and off

One of the most common reasons for then the Ac compressor to shut off/down is a low freon level. Does it blow cold air while it is in operation? If the freon level is ok, you could also have a cycling switch failure. It would be uncommon for the compressor to operarte normally for a while and then not work properly if the freon level is adequate

95 Path finder se ac button no working. No ac at all. Previous owner installed radio since last time he used ac. How can I fix this other than adding freon?

adding Freon may not be the answer but will cause unnecessary problems if not done by a specialist. Have an accredited ac specialist look at the problem as the ac may not be working because of a leak in the system. He may have also used the power wire for the radio and so there is less current available to work the ac.

My air conditioner works but does not cool . i have added freon the last two years and fixed the problem ,did the same thing this year but did not help .

When self adding freon after it leaks out you get air trapped in the system. After adding freon a couple of times the air expands not leaving room for the needed freon. To continue adding freon with air tapped will knock the compressor out pretty quickly, there's not enough room for both & the air is keeping the freon from being able to cool properly give the false indication of being low on freon. The freon you are adding has the dye added to assist in finding the leak since freon does not evaporate nor dissipate it its being leaked out. A black light will assist locating the leak. The best thing is to have the unit checked & serviced by a mechanic...he'll charge about $ 150.00 to check for leaks, remove the old freon...his machine will tell him how much air its trapped in the system by how little freon is removed. For the service fee he will replace valves & gaskets, where needed, correcting most leaks. After sucking the system down & recharging the problem should be corrected.

Not getting cold added three cans coolant no different

My question to you would be are you adding "coolant" to your engine (anti freeze or water) or are you adding freon to your A/C (tip off was the 'three cans').

If you are adding engine coolant, - that is a lot, 'three cans' - and your engine is still over heating, you should get your system evaluated by a pro.

Working on automotive AC is dangerous for the amateur. For starters, amateurs (like me) usually don't have the equipment required to properly evaluate the status of the charge in a automotive AC system. Over charging a charged system is dangerous to you and the equipment just as is operating a undercharged system. Normally, systems are able to protect themselves from operating under charged. Normally, the reverse is not true. Fortunately, we can only 'force' in so much freon.

You have done what you can at this point. It still doesn't work. It is time to go to a professional. It would appear there is a leak somewhere, a leak that you cannot detect, nor repair. Three cans of freon went some where! Your professional AC service man or woman has the equipment to detect leaks, evacuate the system in an environmentally safe manner, repair the leak, if any, effect any other repair that may be required, inject the proper amount of 'sealer' and AC lubricating oil, change the 'drier' and recharge your system to factory specification. At the end of this service, your AC will be in tip-top condition and probably remain there for years. Best of all, you will not accidently injure yourself or your equiment using this process.

That is my suggestion my friend. I hope you find this information useful. Thank you for your interest in

Air condtioner has a bad smell causing headache

Whether as a gaseous or liquid coolant, Freon aids in refrigeration, air conditioning and maintaining aerosol contents under pressure. Not only can this toxic chemical expose the earth to excessive ultraviolet rays, but the substance can also sicken those who inhale it in an enclosed atmosphere.

Detecting the signs and symptoms of a Freon leak will protect lives, ground water and air quality.
Cardiac arrhythmia can signify the presence of leaking Freon. A person without a history of irregular heartbeats might suddenly detect heart palpitations and faulty blood circulation upon exposure to a Freon leak. The blood circulation problems may also lead to numbness in the limbs.

General Illness
  • A Freon leak can cause nausea, headaches, bouts of regurgitation and general disorientation. Confused thinking and trouble walking or coordinating movements also may result. Severity of illness depends on the amount of Freon released and the length of time exposed. A fire department can provide solutions and guidance for anyone detecting a Freon leak and suffering from its effects.

Reset air conditioner on 2002 toyota highlander

Theres no reset, if the ac is not working start by checking the fuses, most times its due to low freon in the system, this is cause due to a leak in the system, you would need to have this checked to see if it is low on freon gas, some leaks are so small you can recharge the system and it could hold for a few years. when the system is checked they will be able to look for dye, this dye is added to the system at the factory to help in locating leaks, with a blue light and yeellow glasses the dye shows up in a bright yellowish green color,

Have a 1992 toyota corolla. I put a can of freon in it for my a/c. It got cold for 2 days and then only just blow out cool air. What can be the problem?

air conditioning sytems are assembled with o rings at each connection to seal the system, as these dry rot and crack over time, they fail and cause leaks in the system. you added freon , but then it leaked out slowly over the next few days. a garage can inject colored dye into your ac sytem and find your leak, but it will cost you.
