2004 mitsubishi outlander waterpump/timing belt issue.

If you know about timing belt driven water pumps.. you know that you have to reset your timing on the engine. If you think you can. Tear it down.. replace the pump. And go onto the internet and find that engine and ask for timing marks.. reset them.. and all will be fine.. hope this helps.

What is the time table for replacing the outlander 2004 timing belt in KM.

depends on climate zone i have found ,these vehicles do have a really thick belt and i have changed them when vehicle has done 150.000 plus kms and the belt has been like new although this is not the recommended interval ,officialy i should say 80.000 kms or 5 yrs or so but again i have found that belts in a dry climate do not last as long as belts on northern climates ,Seems like the dry hot conditions dries out the plasticiers used in the manufacture of the belt .But when i service a vehicle i always remove the cover and check for cracking at the teeth base on the belt ,if no cracking then its ok ,you will always see some cracking on the outside of the belt and the shape of the teeth showing this is normal ,In this climate where its hot and dry most of the time i use a glycerine solution and dip a paint brush into it then with engine running i brush the back of the belt ,This help prolong the life of the belt no end.

At what mileage should I change the timing belt on a 2004 Mitsubishi Outlander. Thanks Sherry

It is suggested by any mechcanic to perform this maintenace every 80,000 miles if you properbly maintain your vehicle. That mean going by the owners manual suggestions. Also I would highly recomend changing the water pum as well for it runs off this belt and water pumps only last as long as the belt will also. If a new belt is installed without a new water pump it may fail in no time. I seen it happen more than a dozen times in the past ten years

Timing belt/chain

This engine has a timing belt.Once you have removed the engine front cover , turn the engine to the marks as shown in the diagram.Lock the crankshaft in this position with an old reverse light switch from the gearbox by inserting it into the hole under the bell housing (manual transmission). Before removing the belt , loosen 3 bolts on the injector pump after you locked this with a 8.5 mm drill bit.Replace the belt and pull the tensioner to 16 Nm.If you are fitting a whole pulley replacement kit take note of the upgraded spacers and their position.e60a21d.jpgDont forget to tighten the injector pump bolts again after you tensioned the belt and recheck your timing marks.
