    Thank you for your reply.
we have checked the entire fuel system from the tank to the front of the vehicle for leaks and smells so i am leaning towards your comment about the carbon gas vapor storage canister, could you please tell me where that is located? thank you.

More than likely you have an overloaded carbon gas vapor storage canister, when u fill up to u top off? if so don't do that and the problem will clear itself, otherwise replace the carbon canister and also get under the truck and look for fuel stains, fuel dripping on metal leaves a very distinctive stain that is oily looking

it is in a tray near the gas tank, has hoses and wiring going to the tray.

it will be either in front of the fuel tank (towards the differential) or on the side, it is a big tray so u will see it.

2008 Chevy cobalt 2.2 l 133,324 miles. It just started to hesitate to start and smells like raw gas. What could it be?

Hi Jesse, IM AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair.

Jesse, if you are smelling "Raw Gas" then this is a sign of a gas leak or an injector stuck open flooding the system.
Start the engine and check for fuel leaking from the injectors sometimes and injector will leak externally. Also check for fuel leaks around the fuel line and fuel rail, also check under the vehicle, the fuel lie, tank, filler tube. The Internal Injector leak can only be checked after removal of the fuel rail (engine off). With the fuel rail in your hand have someone turn the key on (engine off) it should be a spray like pattern from each injector and no drips after the spray. NOTE: This should be checked only after there were no other issues found with the first issues I talked about. Hope this helps and please visit my auto-repair-website http://www.bigasautorepair.com/

Toyota corolla 2004 hatchback .. on cold start, auto choke stays open for 2-3 minutes .. smells like raw fuel. Can it be adjusted?

Never heard of a choke on a fuel injected vehicle

Only on a carburator from the early 1980's & before

Sounds like your guessing at something

I would suggest you ask at a local repair shop, before
that excess fuel ruins the exhaust converter or worse

Petrol smell

say source. and year.
in the air raw fuel
or unburnt running fuel. out the tail pipe end.?

raw fuel , pure gasoline. ?
that be 1 of 2 reasons (no year stated )
fuel leaks, (look for it end to end)
EVAP failure. (no year, stated, so cant guess what you have EVAP wise)
no country, all countries have different rules and parts.

Runs ******

if it smells like raw, unburned fuel, you may have an injector stuck open. i assume it clears up and drive good after a short warm up. there will be evidence of which cylinder has the bad injector by pulling out the spark plugs. the affected cylinder will be washed clean and smell like unburned fuel. the plug may also be "wet black" and of course smell like raw fuel.

2002 ford taurus smell gas when the outside temperature is over 80 degrees

Fuel tanks have a vent tube and a charcoal cannister to capture the gas fumes from the tank. It's possible there is a cracked or loose hose, faulty fuel cap, bad canister or a fuel leak and any one of many connections. Investigate for sign of raw fuel along the underside of te vehicle, and in the engine compartment. Attempt to follow the smell to isolate the location of a leak.

I smell gas fumes and I'm not sure where its coming from.

It's possible that you have a fuel line or injector leaking on the engine. With the engine OFF take a look near the front center of the top of the engine by the fuel lines and injectors for any dampness or strong odors. I have seen a few leaks in this area and usually you'll catch a whiff of raw gas inside the vehicle as you sit in traffic or when you walk by the vehicle after shutting it off. Because of the risk of fire you should have this smell checked out as soon as possible.Good luck, hope this helps!

My 2004 Dodge grand caravan turns over, but won't start. This only happens occasionally and takes about 8 tries before it turns over. What could the problem be?

You may have a fuel leak within the fuel delivery system. Start your vehicle, after about 30 seconds shut it down and along the drivers side frame, get down and sniff for a raw (unburnt) gas smell. If you dont smell any fuel(gas) than you may need to replace your fuel pressure control valve. Thank you, and best of luck, Dana

Fuel leak (smell is in the passenger vent) but cannot be located.

sounds like it could be a leaking fuel rail. you should fix this very soon. if it is it is a fire hazard. that is if it is under hood and not underneath. look under vehicle and check for wet spots.
