Question about 1997 Hyundai Sonata

1 Answer

Starting problems When I turn the ignition key to start the car all I get is a single click sound. After repeatedly turning the key off then on it would start. We have had the car for about 2 months and it happened about once every 3 weeks, but now it won't start at all. When I directly jump the terminals on the starter I get a whirling (spinning) sound but it does not turn the engine over. This discrepancy is what puzzles me.....

I called myself programming the new keys for my pt cruiser, but,it didnt take. At first it would start and run for a few seconds, now it wont turn over.what did I do wrong and how can I fix this?

Takes the master key to get it started again. The security gives you 3 tries to get the vehicle started, after the third time, it kills the starter.
2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Note: You must have two valid keys to add a new key to the system.
1. Insert the first valid key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to the
ON/RUN position for at least three seconds, but no longer than 15 seconds.
Then, Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and remove the first key.
2. Insert the second valid key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to
the ON/RUN position within 15 seconds. After 10 seconds, a chime will sound.
In addition, the Vehicle Security Light will begin to flash. Turn the ignition switch
to the LOCK position and remove the second key.
3. Insert the new key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to the
ON/RUN position.within 60 seconds. After 10 seconds, a single chime will
sound. In addition, the Vehicle Security Light will stop flashing. To indicate that
programming is complete, the Vehicle Security Light will turn on again for
seconds and then turn off.
The new key is now programmed. The Remote Keyless Entry transmitter will
also be programmed during this procedure.
Repeat this procedure to program up to eight keys.

My car won't start but I don't think it's battery. When I turn the key to start it up the radio comes on and all of the lights, but when I crank it up it sounds like a clicking noise. What's wrong?

year, make, model, engine size?

If it is a rapid repeating clicking noise when the key is in the crank position than it is almost always the battery. If it is a single click every time you try to start it is almost always a bad starter.

In my 1999 dodge caravan the ignition only turns the engine over after repeated attempts.

Sounds to me like the ignition switch itself. If there is no click or absolutely nothing and after several key turns it will work then the ignition switch itself is going bad. I'm not positive if this vehicle has a security key. If it does try another key if have more than 1 for the vehicle or get a replacement key. The ignition switch will either need replaced or could be the switch no longer able to read the security key if it has one.

2009 pontiac montana no start problem-turn key and get a single click sound-when you do this all the indicator lights such as seat belt etc all go off-eventually after repeating key off and on the vehicle...

Check battery cables for tightness, make sure they are not corroded. If all is good, i would suspect a bad starter. Next time it gives you trouble, if you can access it from under hood or underneath, try tapping on it with a wrench or hammer while someone turns the key and see if that helps.

When I turn the ignition key the van won't start. I hear a clicking sound. I replaced the starter. It still won't start.

Is it a single click? If it is, check your battery cables and be sure they are clean and secure. A loose connection can cause this problem.
