To check the antenna do this
To test the sensitivity of your car's whip antenna by tuning your radio to a weak AM station and touching the whip antenna with your hand and the station should sound better, if not u have an antenna issue.

It is common with newer radios to have poor reception performance due to extra amplification in the RF stage being no longer used. (cheaper design). This kind of problem was also further evident with older antenna getting water in their "air cored" coaxial cable that is used, but you have replaced your aerial so that more or less precludes that as a possible problem.

Generally when a radio is freshly installed there is a procedure for trimming the aerial to the radio, this is normally done with the aerial extended and selecting a very weak station usually at the high end of the band on AM then adjusting the trimmer in the radio, this doesn't affect the FM band. Your radio instruction book should mention the process.

You could try an "inline" antenna booster, this is a small device that attaches inline to the aerial cable and radio and is powered from the +12 volt vehicle system, but these devices don't really give good performance unless a reasonable signal is present.

Aerial installations do require the underside of the panel they are mounted on to be clean metal (to make a good earth point) this is neccessary when really chasing best signal. A recessing antenna can also be problematic when chasing better reception, the standard original simple external cowl mount type is generally better.

Cd player work but no radio

Assuming the vehicles antenna is intact and in one piece, check the antenna connection behind the radio. If the antenna is connected behind the radio, there could possibly be a problem with the radio's tuner (internally). The only way to properly diagnose this problem is to place a radio that is known to work into the vehicle (simply to test) and check the radio reception. If the radio reception is improved and working, you know the problem lies within the radio itself.

If it still does not work, there is a problem with the antenna on the vehicle (disconnected, damaged, cut, etc.)

Why does my 2008 Ford Ranger radio work well on FM but Am reception is poor?

Try checking the wire connection of the antenna to the back of the radio. Outside the car, make sure the antenna is tightly attached to the base .

Why have I no radio reception on peugeot 307?

go step by step to find the fault.
check antenna connection behind the radio
check roof aerial and wire connection underneath it.
Take an old radio's antenna and connect it to your car's radio antenna input and check whether your car radio is working properly.

Just had a new windshield installed in my 2007 toyota tacoma and now i have no radio reception could one have to do with the other

Yes- If you originally had the antenna in the windshield like many 1970's era GM cars and trucks, yor new windshield may not have it, or if it does- it may not have been connected. There should also be a trimmer adjustment on the side or bottom of the radio to trim the new antenna for best reception. It may also be located where you can adjust it fromthe front if there is an access hole to a screw that does not appear to be attached to the outside case of the radio. Turning it slightly should make noise if it does not immediately improve reception..

If you have an antenna mast, it may be the mast shifted, in which case it is a matter of putting the mast int he original location and tightening the mouting nut down so a good ground is achieved with the fender. You can tell if you turn on the radio and then pull the mast down and let go- you will hear the radio go in and out of reception.

My Saturn factory AM/FM radio on my 1996 SL gets some FM reception but no AM reception. I am trying to determine whether I need to repair the antenna or the radio.

You will need to pull the radio out of the dash and make sure the antenna is still pluged into the unit. If the antenna is in the windshield make sure the glass is not broken, and the wire broken. If there is an external antenn, you need to check the connection at the bottom of the antenna, and the wire is good between the antenna and the radio. Has any new items been mounted recently, the screws could have damaged the coax.

2001 Ford Taurus Radio doesn't work but CD player does!

Does your car have an automatic raising and lowering antenna? If it does check your fuses for it. If not pull your radio out of the dash, and check to make sure that the antenna wire has not become lose or unplugged from the back.

No am reception and poor fm reception - 2004 Kia Sedona

If the antenna is on the front, pop the hood, and locate where the antenna wire connects to the bottom of the antenna and make sure it is connected well. If everything checks out there, you will have to pull the radio from the dash, and look at the back of it. There will be a large black wire by itself connected to the radio. Push it in to make sure its connected as well. That could really be your only problem unless your radio happens to have a fault on the inside which is extremely rare. Hope that helps
